What do I do if its staying in the basement for the winter so she satrts in the spring? do i do fluid changes in the spring or now? do i need fuel stabilizer or should i run it out of gas
i'd suggest topping it off and putting in the stabilizer. last winter i ran mine out of gas then when it came time to ride again i had some rust in the tank. had to go through the pain in the ass of cleaning out the gas tank and sealing it. it's much easier just to fill 'er up and put in the stabilizer. the only concern is keeping a bike with a full tank of gas indoors?

As long as your basement is heated, I assume it is all you should need to do is disconnect the negative battery terminal.
You can make your battery last much longer by buying a "Battery Tender" and leaving it plugged in all winter. This is a great product at www.batterytender.com.
I think changing the oil and running the engine prior to storing it is a good thing. You could basically do a maintenance routine (lube cables, clean/lube chain, etc.) then you're ready to go in the spring.
