Title: Clutch Problem and Question
Post by: Gumbyrmw on October 12, 2004, 11:58:14 PM
I have a 1991 GS500E that I bought to learn how to ride on. When I got it 5 months ago it only had 1364 miles on it (a good find) and i know the mileage is correct. Well now it has about 3000 and i noticed after I have been riding for a little while that when i pull the clutch in and come to a stop the RPMs stay up at like 4,000rpm. If I let the clutch in and inch up at the light it will go back down to where it is supposed to be. The clutch doesnt slip at all but the bike hadn't been ran for many years before I bought it. Other than that it is in great condition. What should I look to adjust/repair on this bike? Thanks

This has probably been discussed to death.  Most likely a lean condition, usually happens to stock bikes when the engine is hot.  Do a search and you will find many posts on how to identify and remedy it.

Cheers,

i'm with ed89 on this one, usually is a carb problem.  however, i have heard of problems with hanging idle due to poor valve clearances.  worth a check :dunno:
