Title: Throttle cable path
Post by: mattb on October 14, 2004, 07:32:40 AM
Does anyone have a good picture of the throttle cable path through the frame.  Apparently I have an issue with mine, even though it looks correct.  Whenever I turn the wheel to the right, up go the RPM's.  I've looked through the Clymer and cannot find anything.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by adjusting the cable at the carberator.

Adjusting in what way?

Do you have any "play" at all in the throttle cable?  If you can't twist the throttle grip forward and back a tiny bit without affecting the RPMs then you may just need to loosen things up.  You can introduce extra slack either at the carb end of the cable like mattb mentioned, or at the hex nut on the cable directly below your front brake lever.

If you can't seem to make a difference by adjusting the cable on either end, then change its routing.  In the stock configuration the cable goes from the handlebar forward, then between the forks and back. Undo the cable from the carb end, pull it out from between the forks, and then send it back to the carbs and reattach it.

PS - Are you sure the throttle cable is causing the high RPMs and not the choke cable?  You can check by disconnecting the choke cable (easier than the throttle cable) and turning the bars.  The choke cable can be rerouted in the same manner if needed.
