Title: NOS ?
Post by: ollie357 on October 16, 2004, 06:00:15 PM
Just, ah, wondering...can you safely hookup a nitrous oxide kit to a GS500F ? I mean, they sell them for 250cc 2-cyl bikes, so souldn't the GS be fine? Not that I'm considering this mod anytime soon, mind you.   :nono:

I mean, it would be JUST for emergency use only. Like if I were being chased by a helicopter or something and the tunnel leading into the mountain was like, a kilometer away, and I  just needed that extra boost.

I don't know.  NOS makes a LOT of heat.  An air-cooled GS doesn't seem like it would stand much of it.

NOS will do two things, first make you go fast, then it will make a big boom, that boom being the rods going through your cases.  Of course if tuned properley you never know, but not being specifically made for the GS would allow alot of variables to creep in.

Nitrous is actually cools the engine. It doesn't add heat. If anything it takes away.

Not like I'm salivating or anything....

For about $800 bones you can run 12's...  I bet with some headwork you could get in the 11's.

My interest is peaked now.  Does anybody know the dimensions of the 2lb nitrous bottle?  I wonder if you can tuck it under the side panels...

many factors go into nitrous tuning I know more about car and nitrous though.   One of the major factors is going to be how much power the engine can hadle.  Rods, pistons exc.  Then the clutch how much power can the clutch handle before slipping or breaking?  Fuel delivery depending on your desired hp level may be a consideration.  Is that kit dry meaning it adds no additional fuel?  I have no clue what kind of considerations need to be taken with carbs because i know alot about nitrous on fuel injected cars.  One thing I would do make sure you have an aftermarket exaust.  You will not get near the same effect w/ nos with a stock exaust as a more free flowing one.  IF you are going to run Nitrous make sure you do not HAVE AN IGNITION ADVANCER.  probably should run higher octane gas while on the bottle then add octane booster.  With the low compression of these bikes nitrous may not be that bad

I've been looking for the kit contents on the web but can't find them.  I have a couple of old baseplate kits from my last race motor that I will most likely hack up for parts.  I doubt I'll be able to afford the whole kit all at once but I can build it up from parts a little at a time.  If I can find out which solenoids it uses I can buy those and fab up the rest.

I've been considering either a GSXR head or Turbo but I think from a complexity standpoint - Nitrous is the easiest to add.  I have most of the parts from my Pinto so I'm leaning this direction..  I found the dimensions of the Nitrous bottle and there's no way to hide the 2lb bottle from the kit under the side panels.  NOS has a 10oz. bottle that would fit under the right side panel but it would probably only support a couple of runs.  I think if I do this I will just go balls out and mount brackets and have a big ol' bottle hanging off the rear side at the drags.  That's how the old Kawi's did it so....

If anybody can find me the list of parts in this ATV kit please forward it.

Do a search for "turbo" and you should see it, it was a while back but just look for one with a whole bunch of pages.
