ok, the original plan was to learn to ride on the gs, sell it and buy a bigger bike....well, I've decided that my 89 mustang needs to have a bad ass supercharged 331 stroker motor, so I'll be keeping the gs for another year. my question is about a full exhaust and jet kit. how big a difference in power is this going to make? I recently went to a 15 tooth front sprocket, is that change comparable? the bike needs drag bars too, now that I've ditched that hideous stock windscreen. anybody got a set they like (and want to share the manufacturer's name)? thanks, this website is awesome, I especially like how posts are treated as requests for information, and not challenges that end up in arguments and name calling....
Full system... not really much use unless you do port/flow work. check out my Exhaust kits post, and rejet... save the Jet kit $$$ The DIY method is very very good and in fact less problems than a kit. I am on the verge of making a career of fixing jet kit botch up's ... :x

Actually a full system with the proper jetting will make a major improvement in power. The stock can is very restrictive and the bike is jetted too lean from the factory. A slip-on using stock headers is still a good option since the GS does not flow as much as typical 4-valve motors where a full exhuast with a larger diameter header will benefit.

Usually the gas mileage takes about 10% hit. Having said that, its mostly due to the fact that you'd be more agressive with the throttle. It will rev better and you'll now want to rev it.... The benifit is a cooler running motor, and a motor that runs better when weather is cold .... IMHO you should jet the bike regardless of changing pipe or filter, because that is what is good for it. All stock US bikes can use 1 bigger mains, 1 bigger pilots and 1 washer under needle and 3 turns on air screws.
