Yes, it's true. The day before yesterday I get up in the morning, expecting to hop on my bike to get to work/lab research and.......... :( :x ITS GONE!
:bs: Just like that. Parked in front of my house, just like I always did for the past 6 months. Some *%*%&(^&*ing bastards must have lifted it onto a truck and hauled it away in the early morning hours. Otherwise I would have heard it start up. Besides, I keep the ignition disconnected and the disk locked. (sigh) I just filed a police report/insurance claim and am waiting to hear back.
Today's commute to work took me ONE HOUR as opposed to my usual 10-15 MINUTES. Public transportation. :x
The second bike is going to have a LOUD ALARM that will wake my ass up. I'm also contemplating bringing in my Mossberg shotgun from NY. They will have approximately 2 seconds to drop what they're doing, get in their truck and haul ass out of there before a berzerk former U.S. Marine pokes his mag-light/shotgun out the second floor window and proceeds to let loose with some "Flamethrower" rounds, less-than-lethal ammo that emits a 10 foot by 100 foot ball of incendiary fire at your target, temporarily blinding them and, at that range, giving them some nasty powder burns. That's what i'll do! :x :)
Anyways, it was probably better I didn't wake up, I would have ran out swinging my bat and gotten either (a) shot or (b) arrested for manslaughter after I bashed the guys head in. Opening fire from my window with less than lethal ammo sounds like a better alternative.
Ah well. About 4000 miles on the odometer. Tom, Erica, it was cool to go up and do that group ride in NH.
I try and look at the bright side of things:
(a)I was gonna get a different bike next year. I assume now the insurance payoff is going to significantly higher than if i traded the bike in next year.
(b) riding season here in boston is almost over. I won't have to worry about where I would have had to store it.
(c) Now I'm damn certain to be getting a second bike! 6 months on the GS, basically riding the living hell out it. wheelies, crashes, long distance hauls, city riding, off-road riding, riding like a bat outta hell through corners ( Tom, you know) riding in down pours, basically riding it every single day, even with my cast on for 6 weeks! It was a helluva bike. I'm missing it already.....but, I got a half years worth of riding experience out of it. Whatever I get next, I won't be feeling like a total NEWB!
SAYONARA OLD PAL!
I'll try to post some pics of the bike that once was. And now.....off to the next one  ! Which BTW, WILL be kept under armed guard. :nana:
Dude, sorry for your loss.
There's nothing like the first bike. It really is a member of the family. I mean as a newb you really entrust your life to your first bike, it really bears the brunt of all the newb mistakes.
Bastards. Man, that sucks. Good thing you have insurance. I only have liability on mine. So what are you going to get next season?
Laura
Sucks to hear about your bike. thieves :x
I forget what year you had?
What are you thinking of getting next? 600? SV?
Thanks folks :). I dunno yet. I've been tossing a bunch of options around for awhile, based on the type of riding i expect to be doing. As far as allroundability ( a legit word? if not then it should be ) is concerned I'd go with the YZF600. However, I don't want to limit myself to the 600cc class. I sat on the Honda 954RR and it felt great, but i'd have to find a used one since they no longer make them. The CBR600f4i felt good too. basically, I like to tool around the city every day in a sporty looking bike but I don't want to have to pay for it too much in terms of comfort when riding the distance. The black '04 Interceptors look great, but they may be just out of my price range.
So, its got to be fully/half faired, at least 600cc AND when I sit on it I go "oooooooh, just right." 8)
oh yeah, the GS was the new '04 model in blue. Fortunately I didn't install the vance and hines system i ordered awhile back. I'll offer it for sale at a VERY fair price here if my bike ain't found soon (HAH!). + some other stuff.
You might want to look into Triumphs. From what i hear the Daytona600 is fairly comfy and looks quite nice. The newer ones(Daytona650) have more power. You can probably pick up a used one or a demo one for a decent price.
As for the rest of the post-- :x :x
Ouch... sorry bout your bike. Seems to be a lot of that going on lately. :x

not to take this too seriously, but i'd recommend something that wouldn't run the risk of igniting your bike.
sucks that this happened man. hope your insurance doesn't give you too much hassle.
cheers,
will

f%$k it...LIGHT 'EM UP!!
:guns: Theives. I got zero tolerance for that $#!t.
The F4i will not be comfortable without bicycle shorts under your leathers.
The SV650S. Think of the insurance, man. FOR the love of God, Think of the Insurance! ;)
Or, the YZF. :)
:guns: I'd consider "bean bag" rounds too or rubber riot pellets. Don't want to dent my tank though.
Damn, A few years ago I had a riot grenade full of rubber pellets/CS tear gas. I set it off though since it was getting kinda old and funky. Worked perfectly. NOW THAT my friends would have been perfect to chuck out the window if an alarm went off. But my downstairs neighbor might not find that as amusing as I would. :dunno:
If you can wait for next season to roll around, I just remembered Kawi is releasing their "new" ZZR 600 that is basically the '02 ZX-6R. MSRP is set at 7199 and you're getting an awesome bike for that. It was supposed to be one of the most comfortable 600's in recent production. I bet it has equal performance to the F4i with a $1000 cheaper price tag. I also LOVE that Ram Air and blue color on the Kawi
I wouldn't be surprised if insurance on the ZZR was cheaper than the F4i
Sorry for the loss Ollie....but before putting money down on a new bike i'd think about getting a more secure parking spot. Ya you can get an alarm but best to discourage potential thieves altogether by either keeping the bike in a secure space or noticeably securing the bike to an immoveable object that would make theft more trouble than it's worth. At the rate the world is going we may eventually have some Robocop era theft deterrant system that will self destruct the bike if the original key is not used. Something on the scale of a small conventional nuke with a tiny blast radius. Or even a small Claymore mine: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m18-claymore.htm
placed under the seat with proximity detonation from an electronic key. Anyhoo.....just wanted to vent a bit. In any case...you deserve a nice bike. Keep it safe. :thumb:
i dont believe i can legally express the actions i would take on a person(s) if i found them attempting to steal my bike.
*leaving it at that*
sad to hear about this... and is making me think.
since purchase of my gs, it's been parked every night *but one* in the corner of my kitchen on a large rug so i'm 100% sure no oil or gas will leak onto the floor.
i dont trust people or that b**** mother nature! i'm option to keep it inside!
chris<pixelmonkey>:D
Bad news, scumbags everywhere.
I recently resurfaced my forecourt area in concrete. I got a mate who is a steel fabricator to make me up a ground anchor, simply an inverted U of steel on a plate about a foot square and 3/4 inch thick and concreted over it. I chain her up every night, it's very old-tech but seems effective and it looks the part which is a great deterent. If you can't go putting groundbolts or anchors in the public highway try chaining to a piece of street-furniture if possible.
F'ing thieves!!
Post some pics and any special mods that had been done to the bike. There are enough people here that may spot the bike whole or being parted out.
Damn man. That f***ing sucks. Maybe I'll take that exhaust off of your hands for ya. We'll have to set up another ride in the spring I'll have a new bike too. I'll still have the GS though. This is the bike I'm getting. Maybe I'll let ya ride it. hehe. I'll have my new bike by April so we should set something up for May. Hopefully Erica will have a new bike too. I think she said she was replacing the "beater bike" (AKA purlple 91 GS) sometime soon.

2005 Raven Black
180HP, Inline 4, Ram Air, Water Cooled, Fuel Injected, 20 Valve BEAST, I can't wait.
PS. Keep those wheels on the street. These kind of bikes aren't made for offroading. Hahaha. C ya man and hope everything works out.
i really like the clamore under the seat idea. you should patent that.
That sucks man, sorry to hear it. Got serial numbers? Post 'em so we can keep an eye on ebay, etc. If it gets parted, you can track at least the frame and motor by the numbers.
Damn, Ollie, that sucks.
Was it here in NYC?
THis city is notorious for being a grab bag for bike thieves. I keep mine in a garage specifically for that reason, it may cost almost $100 a month, but well worth the peace of mind of knowing some scumbag isn't getting his/her hands on my Triumph.
Dude, that sucks!
Sorry to hear it Ollie. Way to look on the bright side tho. Besides, think about all the time you'll have to daydream about your new bike while you're on the T!!!!
Are you going to wait until the spring to buy? Is it true that its cheaper to buy bikes in the winter, if you can handle 'last year's model'?
I'd love to do another ride (springtime) but I'll probably still be on my GS. I'm planning on a lot of overhauling, and painting over the winter, so she'll be more asthetically pleasing (assuming I can keep her rubberside down).
Unless this new high paying job puts lots of cash in my pocket! But I do love my little girl and should buy a new car first I think.
Anyway, bum break. Best of luck with the new bike choice. If you wanna borrow my ugly girlie purple bike till snowflies! ;)
Thanks for the encouraging words eveyone.
I'll send you an price on the Vn'H Tom, you've got first dibs. I'll even throw in some jets that I won't be needing either.
...and thanks for the offer of borrowing your bike Erica, but the bastards around here would strip the wheels off a dudes wheelchair.
This was way quicker than I thought but the Boston PD found my bike, or what was left of it, after it was set ablaze somewhere in jamaica plain. :?
I guess a burning motorcycle attracts some attention. I just can't believe it. The only thing I can imagine is that some stupid bastards thought they were getting a liter gixxer and then realized it wasn't what they wanted. :x :guns: :x :guns:
I'm gonna go to the pound where the remains are being kept this weekend.
I have a deal with my landlord to use his locked backlot as a parking spot for only $15 a month. Bike #2 will be stored there, chained to a pole, with an alarm. And yes, that 12 ga. will be within arms reach loaded with pyro rounds. Hey they set fire to my bike, I'll set fire to them. :guns:
eh, the naked purple bike might insult your manhood anyway. No offence to all the other naked purple bike riders on here. ;)
and no offence to your manhood, which i know nothing about.
heh.
I feel quite secure in my, er..."manhood", thank you very much.
In fact, I'm gonna get a blaze pink vespa scooter as my next bike and wear a jacket with glitter tassels and STILL be considered a Manly Man by all who see me on the road.
Of course, I'll be riding with a samurai sword strapped to my back but that's beside the point.

The dealers around here seem to get a bunch of bikes in Nov/dec, and sell them like hot cakes... if the bike is still around in May then it goes on clearance sale...
Cool.
Srinath.

Damn Sox fans...
Damn. I'm gonna have to post some pics after I develop them. I saw the remains of my bike at the tow pound. The whole thing looked as if were caught in the middle of a napalm strike. Just a charred skeleton. it was weird going there to claim my bike. It sorta felt as if I was going over to a morgue to claim someone I knew. When I saw it I was stunned as to how totally gone it was. my friend who was with me asked how I could be sure it was my bike. Besides the serial number, I rubbed off some ash from what was left of the brake lever. Aftermarket Aluminum/carbon fiber pattern. Yup, the fingerprints matched. :( :bs:
Oh dude. That sucks. It's amazing how many people will steal shaZam! instead of going out and earning the money :x
Get a dog. A big mean dog and chain it to your bike. Companionship + Alarm.
