He did ... but that applies only to his rich friends...

Emoticon ... dammit I cant even vote... and oh yea I cant have a gun either. So I guess I am screwed.
Cool.
Srinath.
Ouch! :( That sucks, man, I'm sorry. Best of success in finding something better...
With all the stuff you do for the motorcycling community? Couldn't you make that a job? Working out of your house, claiming part of your house tax free. You're a competent m/c mechanic, you could do side jobs.
I hope for the best for you.
Damn that's rotten news. Sorry dude. Do you have enough contacts to do some consulting? - tech not moto....
Sorry to hear it pal. What exactly did you do? Any job prospects?

Will your club be having meetings? Some of us may need to know the time and place ... just in case. :x
Sorry to hear that. I'm curious about how creative the announcement was....
I do Unix and actuate support right now, but have done Siebel dev and support, Db development and support, lots of application integration, testing, deployment, management... hard core old school IT... none of the new fangled J2ee or .net crap much of that's in INdia anyway now, and no mac. Unix and NT... 12+ years.
Cool.
Srinath.
Sorry to hear that dude! Maybe we can each buy a couple of srinath bars...
BTW are you on a work visa?

me too. There is some hope, as the service industy is doing better than some. Many manufacturing companies like mine are struggling.
You never know, it might end up a good thing when you score a better gig. Good luck :thumb:
:icon_confused:
I was laid off two weeks ago and I am about to go crazy with the honey do list. Go find a job quick!
Sorry to hear that, Srinath. Here's to you finding a job that is better than the one you had
Laura
Visa... damn that would be rough... but luckily... nope... and better than one I had... Its a tall order... massive perks when you work for one of the continent's largest employers... like selling bikes wihtout an ad... Our grape vine is so huge its bigger than all the vine regions in france and italy combined... and believe it or not... there is divisions that are hiring... talk about left hand not knowing right hand... and the bank is like a millipede... like 10000 hands...
Cool.
Srinath.
Quote from: cucamongaSorry to hear that dude! Maybe we can each buy a couple of srinath bars...

Oh well you dont have to do that... (anyway I am down to the last 3 or 4) and well I want 1 for the 95, so 2 left... I might make the 04 types sooner now that I have the extra time ... and I may do case savers as well, down to last 1 or 2... and other projects... new passion is exhaust flanges... which BTW is a really short time frame for y'all to take advantage of... not because of me... but dennis krook is selling them all cheap... $50 for a stainless well made new can... Buy a can, and a flange and bolt on... 20 mins with a dremel tool... easy.
Cool.
Srinath.
Same boat as you.......
Sorry to hear that,
Divisions downsizing whilst others are recruiting sounds strangely familiar, left hand - right hand, the bigger they are the worse it gets.
Good luck with jobseeking, until you find something there's always test matches when you are not in "bike" mode.
turns out my brother got laid off day before yesterday. His company got bought out a an australian company, they laid off all the US programmers and kept the US sales ppl. So he is job hunting now. Says he should have one by the end of the week.. we will see. In anycase he should go on a vacation by himself, he hasnt been on one in ages.. after all what else is the layoff money good for eh?
Damn ... B of A bought Fleet, and some politicians claimed that that was eliminating jobs in the North east... so B of A decided to add the South to that list...
The other thing...
Quote from: The_good_guySo he is job hunting now. Says he should have one by the end of the week..
I haven't yet felt out the market for my niche of IT... How is your brother confident ? ... is the market good ? ... from past experience, This time of year is a lousy time to be looking for a job ... and it gets worse through jan 1st week.
Cool.
Srinath.
I think Un*x admin is a very broad field, which should help with opportunity. It's a tough time for the industry; many jobs have been replaced by new positions with reduced compensation. But at least there are still jobs there.
I have Unix admin experience ... lots of it... more like managing a bunch of apps that run on unix. Old school ... and I will make more than 94... cos then I had to have visa... :x
The thing is actuate/UNIX/Siebel admin is a niche... no idea if that's good or not... just that its a niche.... time will tell... BTW first time I am looking for work with that experience... actuate is relatively new, and I started doing it 2 years ago...
Cool.
Srinath.
Hey, sorry to hear about your job. You never know, it might be the push to something you love to do. Good luck job hunting.
well he had one interview in westlake village. He is a programmer but he does UNIX admin too. He had been programming and doing Unix Admin stuff in the last job.
He seems fairly confident. I havent talked to him in detail.
K sound good, I did Unix and other stuff, BTW what is he using to find positions... Dice, monster other...
Cool.
Srinath.
i will ask him.
Quote from: juggernaughtBut if ya have a chance can you create a pro Kerry emoticon..??
What would it do? Flip/flop back and forth?
OK we need that emoticon... it should simply jump and fall every which way and any color and anywhere... Nothing political implied here ... please stop the beating... please... but an emoticon like that will be cool to take care of those wafflers, the reneggers, the wishy washy types...
Cool.
Srinath.
If you don't mind a serious drop in pay, you could go to the academic world. It has been hard to hire folks with your kind of experience since they can make so much more elsewhere. The hours in academia are better if you want to go the education route of the IT. Schools always need IT for their own services too. One can do academics AND consult. Do you know anything about data mining?
Linuxrules. Cool.
Mike D.
Datawarehouse yes, mining OK depends on the ETL tool, but minimal actual work, but well aware of all the interesting features and issues... Now ... where and who has a data mining opening... love to take a crack at it...
Cool.
Srinath.
apparently my brother already has a job, he had an interview with some company the next day (a friend's recommendation to the new company). However he is seeing what else is out there ....
in the mean time he is taking the week off to run some errands.

A friend at American Airlines in Dallas. Does that scare you away? (The "Airlines" or the "Dallas"?) Email me privately (geekonabike@yahoo.com) if you are still interested.
Cool. (Actually darned cold. AC just kicked on.)
--Mike D.
I will consider it by Jan or so if I haven't found anything locally. Actually that should server as a warning to all the Gstwin guys... the srinath factory might close up for good... :o :o :o
BTW you wanna have a one piece drag bar for that savage of yours... should be able to make it in a week or so  that is unless I am busy interviewing... In which case its still comming, just a bit later  .
Cool.

BTW why should it scare me away... American laid off a lot of people ???
Cool.
Srinath.
Bingo!
As a mathematician with a mathematician/industrial engineer wife, we've had at least three invitations from friends to drop what we were doing and join their companies. In all three cases, within 1-3 months those companies were laying people off, once including the friend who wanted us to join up. Those companies were AT&T, United Airlines, and American Airlines. Now you know why someone might be nervous.
An engineering faculty guy once said that these companies will hire anyone when they're "hiring," and fire anyone when they're laying off, and there's not much rhyme nore reason. They'll hire morons when they're hiring, and fire their best assets when downsizing. I don't know how much truth there is, but he believed it enough to remain in a faculty position.
Just food for thought. Otherwise I can send you some contact info, though the post was a while ago so I don't know about it. I can also try to scare up the AT&T (or was it Bell Labs?) contact if you like. That's in New Jersey (which, as a born Illinoisan, scares me right there!), so it's closer to you.
Later,
Mike D.
OK that makes sense... I have also heard the bank (B of A speak for B of A) typically lays off people that can sorta fend for themselves... reason being... they are much less likely to sue. Now they also have the routine habit of picking someone that has a total mismatch skillset and train him out the wazoo to a new position... like in my case... besides they also have to pay the qualified/experienced more... so bigger savings axing them...
New jersey... man the Srinath factory has no chance of ever cranking up in that place... OK Lemme ask you... how many bike parts are made in Jersey... Dallas ok I might start the factory up again after I get situated. In the mean time...factory is cranking out anything at top speed... Oh well lets see what people need.
Cool.
