Looking at my rear tire, I see something about 1/2" long embedded in the rear tire. It looks a bit like a staple from a staple gun, except that it is a little shorter than that, and it is wider at one end and tapers to the other.
Should I go rooting around with a tiny needlenose pliers or tweezers to pull it out? It looks kinda small.
I had a simallar object in my rear tire and pulled it out with needle nose pliers with no problem. Just make sure you have a plug kit handy just in case it has gone all the way through. you can get a plug kit from Wal-mart for a few bucks they are real easy to use. I was lucky enough that my nail staple thing didnt go all the way through, I was not so lucky the next week with the large nail in my car tire, guess I at least got to use the plug.
I dont know about putting a plug in a motorcycle tire, you've only got two and when one goes down your likely goin for a ride.
You have to pull it out. Don't leave it in. It might not even be all the way through. I used something called Ride-on. It worked great. I had a screw in the rear tire. I got another 6,000+ miles out of that tire.
It turned-out to be a piece of glass (that explains why it was thicker at one end). It didn't look like glass because it was so scratched. It was a triangle, maybe 1/4" on a side. After pulling it out, I see no air leaking (but maybe with the rear wheel in the air, that's not a perfect test).
I'll keep an eye on the pressure. Thanks for the tips.
