Title: my short story about buying my GS500!!
Post by: se7enty7 on October 24, 2004, 03:49:32 AM
My day started around 2pm.  Destination: Charlotte, NC to visit srinath; and look at his 95 gs, and someone elses 89 gs (for $750..)

So.  2pm; I go to pickup a friends minivan that I was going to haul my bike back with (in the back).. and measure it.  Whoops... a dodge grand caravan won't easily fit a GS.  Next step, borrow a friends dad's cadillac (it has a trailer hitch; it will work!) and rent a moto trailer from uhaul.  So, I borrow the cadillac and show up at uhaul.  Guess what? NO trailer wiring.  It has a hitch; and a ball (that's OBVIOUSLY used) but NO electrical hookups anywhere.  To make a long story short; I must have been the only fool to hook a trailer up to a seville sts.  So; I spliced into the caddy's wiring myself.

Now; it's 6pm(ish..) and I'm supposed to be in NC at 6:30!!  Give everyone a quick call to let them know I'll be late.

10:00pm or so: Show up at matt's house.. it's a beautiful 89 gs500 in nearly perfect condition.. 13k miles.. buy it.  It needs a battery and turn signals front and rear.

11pm show up at srinath's house.

srinath is awesome; a TRUE member to our community.  I bought quite a bit of stuff (but it didn't nearly add to the FREE help he gave me!!) and his knowledge/skills really are amazing!!  I saw some of his work, and it is top notch.  It's not often you find someone who is more interested in making a quality product than a quick cheapie.  Couldn't say anything better about him/his work...  Thanks!

at a cool 1:15am I pull away from srinath's house..

and... I got home about 45 min ago.  unloaded the bike; took a quick shower, and excitedly post about my new motorcycle!!!

Thanks yet one more time srinath!!

Wow, what an opportunity!  If I were buying an '89 and stopping at Srinath's house afterwards, I'd just pay Srinath to swap the carbs with a pair of cleaned and jetted ones.  I can't think of a shop that I would trust more to get them right!

(or maybe the '89 you bought came from a knowledgable GSTwin'er, so you could trust that the carbs were clean and set-up right?)
Title: I told him...

I told him we can do that, but it was like 12 + when we were having that conversation... anyway... the hoses had brown tinted gas in it, and far from correct routing... Just to fix that I wanted to jet it... but he had to have stayed over in Charlotte and he couldn't...
Cool.
Srinath.

Still, really nice of you to help se7enty7, srinath. Kudos to both! Congradulations on the purchase of your GS!
