Can members try to at least include the state they reside in their profile? Some stuff that is asked is silly, but it's nice to see where people are from.

It would be more of a prompt. If they did not want to disclose their actual location, then they could put some kind of bs.
A lot of people do not realize that having at least their state or even country helps with diagnosing problems or providing assitance.

Looking at the screen names on the left column of the thread...the line just under the user's screen name, where mine currently says "AMA Supersport Racer". I'd love to change that line, but I don't even see where it is an option when I go to Edit Profile.

It's called a custom title. It's given out by moderators at their discretion. They're usually embarassing, silly, or, comical. If you ask for one, you probably won't be happy with it. :)
