One of the real bummers about living in NY state is that (unless you're really die-hard) there is in fact a riding season. I was expecting it to last until maybe 2nd week of October, but the bike is still on the road and it hasn't yet gotten cold enough. Now I'm figuring probably first week of November will be absolutely it, but we'll see.
Today, after an(other) exam I had the rest of the day off, and no real pressing work to take care of. I decided to make the most of a (less than) halfway decent day and go exploring some back roads outside of town. Man, I'm glad I did. Although I ended up getting a little lost (one interesting road kept leading to another), I saw some really beautiful views and learned about some fun rides nearby.
The best part of the trip was a road that wound through a huge open field. it went over a short hill which opened into an easy left curve banked by fenced-in lawn full of baby sheep. I came over it at around 60mph and totally surprised, (both them and I) the whole herd of them bolted from beside the fence to behind the house as I whizzed by. It was one of those moments where the sun is shining and the leaves are all algow and you catch yourself. You're not thinking about the past or the future or anything really besides being in the moment. Man, it was awesome.
I planned on only being out for a really short ride, but it ended up being 4+ hours and ~150 miles.
Here's a couple pics I took when I decided to take this almost hidden little side road which would up beside a small cemetary.

I hate that winter puts an end to riding, but I'm sure thankful fall is such a spectacular finale. Eat your heart out, Sunbelters

FANTASTICLY BEAUTIFUL!
Oooh, so pretty! Gorgeous pics! You have a thicker fall of leaves out there than we do; makes for a nice backdrop.
I took the "new" bike out for a similar ride on Saturday.
