Has anyone made one of these fit their gs? Or know of anyone?

I really want to get one, just so I can get some cool footage.
I emailed the company to see if there would be any interest in producing them.
How many of you would buy one?
wouldnt it be easier to just buy a helmet cam

I want to get one too. It seems that Suzuki uses only two fuel tank cap styles - the 'new' on 03-04 bikes (SBC24 camera mount) and the 'old' (SBC22 camera mount).
So if you know someone, who owns one of the Suzuki bikes that are listed to use SBC22 mount - just visit them and compare the bolt pattern on the tank cap... :)
D.
PS: It's possible that 03+ GS500 also has a different cap than older GS...
PPS: Oh, if you do find out which one will work, let us know! :)
check this out. mantis camera mount (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34284&item=2495301783)
If you want more flexibility (fork mount etc) you could look into so called bullet cams, examples at http://207.207.29.130/STORE/products.asp?dept=12&pagenumber=2. These would allow you to experiment with lots of different shots.
Your camcorder then just sits in a pack and acts as the recorder. One drawback is that they lack image stabilization.

I have used a camcorder mounted on the tank, and a bullet cam mounted all over the place. The bullet cam has a much more stable picture than a camcorder, even with the image stabilization turned on.

I'm not sure if it's because of your feedback, but their
Suzuki page now lists the GS500. (It's in a different font from the rest, so maybe it was added in a hurry?)
Apparently the SBC22 will mount to the tank, but they don't currently have a unit that will mount on the rear.

Cool, just what I found out yesterday - the -03 GSXR750 owned by a friend of mine has the same bolt pattern as my GS500 (except the bolt that is nearest the rider)...

Would you mind sharing with us what 'bullet cam' you've used?
I'm a bit puzzled by the resolution (ranging from 300 to 400 lines) - what is the 'standard camcorder' resolution?
Thanks, D.
DV format output is 540 lines which is equavalent to 720x480 pixels. SVHS is about 380 lines.
I can't speak for image quality of the cam you're looking at but the output resolution should be fine for your application.

I am using a bullet cam from "helmetcamera.com". It is the model with 480 lines of resolution. This is the same as the Sony digital camcorder I am using as a recording deck.
If you want, I will send you a DVD with footage from the bullet cam. You pay for shipping ($4.00) and you will have a real idea. I will also give you footage from the camcorder mounted to the tank.

Thanks for the offer, I love watching such material (I even like Ghostrider, although that stuff is scarry!) - but since I'm in Europe, I don't think $4.00 will cut it. :)
I'd be more than happy to see short clips if you can give them free for download.

Yes, it would be more than $4.00, but how much more I don't know. Let me check.
Here is a link to some video I have posted, but it is really compressed and resized. The Gap video is with a bullet cam, mounted on the side of the tank, and the Two Laps of Putnam and Grattan videos are with the camcorder mounted on the tank.

I just watched 'The Gap' and the 'Two laps of Putnam' videos - I'm surprised how stable the picture is on 'The Gap'!
BTW, that wasn't a GS you were riding there, or was it?

The bike was a 1976 Kawasaki KH500 (3 cylinder two stroke) and that video was shot using the bullet cam. The race track footage was shot using the camcorder on a tank mount.
Paul
PS I will have another video posted in a couple of days of some track footage edited together with the bullet cam mounted in 4 different locations.

Hey Paul,
all your videos got me so excited! :) Makes me wanna go and buy all the stuff right now...
One more question though - what camcorder / recorder do you use? I was looking at a lot of Canon, Sony and Panasonic units, but none had a composite video (or any other video) input)? :dunno:
D.
PS: When I get my camera - get ready for some wicked, twisty Alpine roads! :)

I am using a Sony DCR-IP5. It is a MicroMV camcorder. Smallest made.
(A little bigger than a pack of cigarettes) It records in MPEG 2, so it is really easy to dump on the hard drive of the computer and edit. If you go the the
www.helmetcamera.com website, they give a list of the cameras that are compatible. In retrospect, I would have gotten a cheaper, larger camcorder.
