Title: Purchasing a new bike. Wondering about a fair price.
Post by: Jasco on October 28, 2004, 04:43:42 PM
Looking at a 2004 kawasaki 1600 classic and was wondering what a fiar price would be.  The list is 10,599 and dealer invoice is 9092.  There is also a rebate right now for 300.  I offered 10000 out the door (that is including tax and other misc fees).  He flat out refused.  Said he could knock 300 off LIST and give me the 300 rebate.  He says that is his best deal right around 10,500 out the door.

To me this sounds like a bunch of crap.  2005 models are out and the bike will essentially depreciate an entire year when I ride it off the lot.  The bike is a year and a half old (built feb 2003).  There is alos a 5% dealer holdback.

What can I do to talk him down.  I don't want them to lose money on the deal, but I don't feel like their expectations are realistic.  Should i jsut wait untill february when he is hurting to make a sale?  I don't mind waiting.

In case your wondering I'm keeping the GS.  I just need a more comfortable ride for longer trips.  Teh GS is fun to ride and I will use it for shorter trips/commuting.

Matt

bring cash or talk to a different sales person ... let it sit for another week, month and see if he has sold it or not ... the longer it sits, it continues to take up floor room for the new 05's coming out or other 04 models that are selling better
