Bummer dude.  I hope you heal up soon.

How did the upper hold up?

How fast were you going when you laid it over?  Gotta be pretty fast for 2 inches of peg to be ground off.  Glad to hear you were overall OK!!

I was surprised that the upper really did not take any damage. There is a slight crack (1") near the windshield and a small scuff (1/2") at the outside corner near the handlebar. Other than that nothing. As for that, they could have happened in normal handling.

Not exactly sure but calculated I was going around 65-70 mph

Hope your shoulder feels better!
Race/Track posts are always a good read.  That's got to be frustrating getting all the kinks worked out and then have a patch of sand (?) spook your front tire.

Cool.

Send me some pics of the battle damage when you get a chance?

I have not unloaded the trailer yet. If it is not raining too bad tonight after work I will take some pics. I did not even think about it while I was at the track. More concerned about getting back on the track.

trackday is a track day. everything is let loose. When I did my trackday last week I chose to ride the "B" group (ie slower group) since it was my first time on that track and first time doing a trackday. Even in the slower group I was mixing it up with R1's, superhawks, ducatis of all sorts, gixxer 6/750/1k's, pretty much anything....fun to shame them...

you mean you missed my thread on ->my first track day<- (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13138) ?

or the fact I ran with the "B" group? I'm planning on hitting that trackday again on Nov 24th and will run with the fast, "A" group this time. I was the fastest rider in the "B" group and was talked to about my closing speeds to the other riders....

There were way too many riders in the intermediate group. Some should have been bumped up to advanced and some were dropped down to the novice group. The bike only goes as fast as the rider wants it to. I was passed and I passed my fair share of bigger/faster bikes. I did pass a few in the back straight since I could carry a lot more speed through T8, a high speed right hand sweeper. But generally speaking I could only over take them under braking or in the turns. Either I am riding all alone or I catch up to a slower group and have fun picking each one off in the turns.

Here are the links to some of the pics. Also, the rear axle and swing arm stand spool took some minor scuffing.

There is a scuff that it looks like where it hit me causing the crack in the upper fairing.

The scuff in the upper is hard to see, but it at corner where the black & gray meet.

The seat cowl scuffing did not fully go through to the carbon fiber. I cannot really see any of the CF except where it cracked at a thin spot. Mostly it is only scuffed down to the paint primer. It held up amazingly well.

James...if you want some more pics, I can email them to you. Also, are you making the lower to cover the engine cases or will there be a hole cut in the fairing allowing the cases to stick through?

A length of the foot peg must have broken off. No way you could have ground that much off without the other points of contact (bar end, case cover, etc) showing equally severe erosion.

Yeah send me detail pics of the damage both the upper and where the tail cracked. Odd that the upper cracked there and not on the bolt hole. Very satisfying that the design crashes that well.

Yes the lower lets the side covers poke out.

Thanks for the ups everyone. Ready to get back in the saddle now. It may time to hit some dirt bike trails and practice my sliding.  ;)

I guess the peg could have broken off. Not that I was looking for parts on the track. I was more concerned about getting run over. Not a good feeling looking down the front straight and having bikes coming at me full throttle.

The parts that I have to replace only cost around $50 total.

Odd thing that my leathers really do not have that much additional damage to them.

Glad I was able to crash test your work.

I will email you some more pics later tonight.
