Title: Snaped the oil filter cover bolts? Here is a solution
Post by: dsmirnov83 on November 04, 2004, 07:04:24 PM
After going to three Hardware stores and not finding the correct two sided bolt I stoped over by pep-boys and got a "Water pump" kit that had The right size double sided bolts. $3 bucks for 4 bolts it not so bad...

I'll post up the pictures of the kit when I have a chance...

Cheers,
Denis S.

Too funny I was just going to post about this.  I busted the bolt off trying to change my oil filter tonight.  I just changed the oil and didn't do the filter because I didn't know what to do.  How do I get the bolt out of there?  And what water pump kit do I get?  Is there a part number?  Does this happen a lot?  It happened when I changed the spark plug too! :dunno:   Thanks for any help.  I am trying to get the GS ready for sale, I found out I am moving back to colorado and don't think I want to lug it across the country from florida.  I will miss her so much though.

OK, you can remove the bolts by 2 ways
1) Get a great grip with a pair of pliers and turn.
2) find 2 nuts tht will fit (I think 6mm Metric) tighten them on the bolt against eachother. This way you can use them to unscrew the bolt.

I'll find the kit and post up the picks tomorrow.

or you can always use extractor kits... drill a small hole... and just drill again with extractor screw bit... that's how i got my pilot jet out...

Sheesh, strange timing.  I had this problem over the weekend myself.  When putting one of the nuts on over the screw I sheared off the end of that bolt.  Now I'm not sure how to get the bolt out.

It seems like you would need more clearance to get a drill into the general area of the bolt to use the easy-out solution.  If I'm lucky I can get a vice grip and somehow twist it out....
