Title: gas cut-off???
Post by: wintermute1001 on November 24, 2004, 05:51:50 PM
I was in a crash about two months ago, damn black suv cut me off.  My damage seems mostly cosmetic other then my front forks being bent.  But my question is: is there a gas cut-off when a bike goes down?  And if so, how do i get the gas flowing again.  Im gonna start fixing the bike, but ive tried twice and cant get it started.  Cranks, but doesnt start.

many thanks

first, are you sure your no-start is fuel related? have you checked for spark at the plug?
you have two petcocks one under the tank that is an on/off (on would be the little slot perpendicular to the tank bottom)
the other is the remote one you prpbably are aware of near your left leg. it is your main/reserve/prime I'd suggest using prime for now, til you get it fired.  You could open the bowl drains at the bottom of the carbs to see if you are geting fuel also.
as to a dedicated "fuel cutoff" for crashes, no the gs doesn't have one.

Kerry has some great pics of the two petcocks and fuel line routing that will help you if you find it has no fuel at the carbs.
