Hi everyone. . .
thanks to everyone who answered my questions about installing the K&N filter on my 2004 GS500F at:
http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13667
i was able to actually do it on my own
and to tell you the truth,
it really wasn't that hard at all
(cept when i had to lift the tank; thank god my brother was home to lift it for me)
2 weird things happened when i took it out for a test ride after:
a) it died after about 2 km at a stop sign. . .and after stopping traffic for about 30 seconds, i had no choice, but to walk it to the parking lot next to me to let it warm up a little longer
b) 30 minutes after coming home after that incident, i took it out again and it died (at a major intersection too!). . .this time, the bike wouldn't start at all! i was like DAAAAAAAAMN! after waving people to pass me for about 2 minutes, i tried starting it again and since then, i've had no problems
My question is: does this mean i have to warmup even longer now with this new air filter (and Wileyco carbon fiber exhaust from srinath) or did i do something terribly wrong during the installation?
any help would be appreciated
cheers,
joel
hmm...sounds weird...but i am doing the same mods that you have done to your bike soon.
Did you rejet?
the bike is stock lean...so not that you have the pipe and the filter...it will be really lean...so that means you have to jet it...
Sounds like a similar problem I had, except I had it backwards
The previous owner had already installed a K&N drop in replacement,
I didnt know that untill I had bought a new paper one, i thought that since I already bought the paper might as well use it
My bike would behave in a similar manner when it was cold, but mostly went away when i swapped the k&n back to the paper, then later in the season i cleaned and installed the drop in K&N filter and the problem reoccured, must be to lean :dunno:
it also developed a serious flat spot about 6-7k rpm, even worse when the little restictor thing is in there...yikes.. time to rejet
airbrush: be careful of doing these mods. . .it freaked me out at first, but since those two incidents happened, it's been fine. . .it seems like the k&n filter needed some 'working in' time before working properly
sprint_9: not yet. . .i ordered the jet kit by dynojet for my bike from:
http://www.tnt-actionsports.com/catalog_product_detail.asp?CatalogCode=1291&LevelCode=6513&PartHeaderNumber=111091&CatalogTypeCode=&ProductCategoryCode=
hopefully it'll work out after it's installed
i'm pretty sure it's just that my bike is running too lean right now
Frost: thanks. . .i'm rejetting as soon as the jet kit arrives in the mail (hopefully it's not too cold and i can still ride. . .it's already about 0 degrees celsius here, in toronto! BUT I'M STILL RIDING! WOHOOOOOOO!)
coll0412: HA! i was experiencing that flat spot at 6-7k rpm . . .but only during those two incidents i mentioned. . .i'm pretty sure that my bike is just running WAY too lean right now and it's time to rejet. . .i just ordered a jet kit by dynojet (check link above) and i hope it'll fix the problem. . .
funny. . .when i first started browsing this forum, i didn't even have my bike yet . . .i was just researching on the available resources I have if i had any problems with my bike. . .and i tell ya, EVERY SINGLE time that i read topics about rejetting and other 'technical terms' persay. . .i skipped over it thinking i'm too dumb to comprehend. . .
but now that i have the bike. . . i really have no choice but to learn! and honestly, it's great! i'm learning more and more everyday from this forum! Thanks so everyone who made it possible!
by anychance is your name on other board giero_T or something like that?...
i rode yesturday...10 degrees!!!...i was actually sweating!!!
Frost: nope. . .i'm dolepineapple on the other board too! i was riding too! so much fun, but it might be the last for the season. . .
