Title: Newbie question about engine just stopping
Post by: AdamW on November 30, 2004, 03:58:56 AM
Guys,
Firstly thanks for all the tips I've got from reading these boards, great work!
I've got a bit of a problem with my '93 model GS.  I'm pretty new to bikes, so haven't done much work on it, although I have managed to change the oil by myself!
Anyway my bike just stopped dead this arvo, had just taken off from some lights was probably in third gear and starting to slow down again for another set of lights.  Heard a funny noise maybe like a minature backfire and that was all she wrote.
When I try to start it again it sounds like it wants to start, but just won't catch on and run by itself.  I also noticed an extra vibration that wasn't usually there, just under my left leg, was going to check it out when I got home, don't know if this has anything to do with it or not....

Like I said I'm pretty new to engines and stuff, so I hope this isn't too stupid a question, any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Adam

Minor backfire? Vibration under your leg? Won't start?

Might have been a "reverse backfire" in the carb, which in turn knocked the carb out of its boot. Check if the carburetors are still firmly attached to both motor and airbox.

Heh. "Arvo". No need to declare your country of origin in the profile..

Oh, BTW, reverse backfires are usually a result of a low fuel condition.
