Title: Mounting Givi Luggage???
Post by: 04DL1000 on December 01, 2004, 03:52:30 PM
Hello,

I've seen in the gallery, where some folks have mounted Givi top cases to their GS's. Can anyone tell me where to get the mounting plate for the Givi box that actually fits the GS tail section?

Also, has anyone mounted Givi side bag luggage to their GS, yet? If so, where did you get the mounting frames?

Thanks.

I have no experience with Givi-brand mounting hardware.  But if you could find a source for Five Stars products you could consider the Givi-compatible racks on my Riderhaus (http://www.bbburma.net/Riderhaus.htm) page.

The last time I checked, Riderhaus no longer offered Five Stars products.  :x

azmotorsports.com have them. I considered getting a top case a while ago and passed, mainly because of the total cost.

There are two main lines of Givi luggage: "Monolock" and "Monokey".  Don't worry, the names don't mean anything.

Monolock cases are the newer line, often more rounded, sculpted and designer looking.  They are a fair bit cheaper.  They come with a mounting plate which will attach to pretty much any rear rack you've got.  However, they are also flimsier.

Monokey cases are the traditional line.  The old ones are really chunky looking.  They are rated to hold much more weight.  They are more expensive.  There are some new models which are as designer-looking as the Monolock cases, but they cost even more.  Monokey cases will only mount on a Givi top-rack, or compatible (5-Stars makes a good compatible tubular rack... good luck finding it).

Givi sells a top-rack that is sturdy but some think it sits up so high, it looks funny.  It has no brackets for side racks.  Givi also sells a universal-mount "wingrack", which can hold two sidecases and a topcase, but is a bit fiddly to get attached to the GS.  Fivestars sells a _nice_ tubular rack system which can hold two sidecases and a topcase, but is very hard to find (made in Germany).

If you're going for cheap, the Suzuki rack looks good, and you can mount a Givi Monolock plate and topcase to it... maybe $120-$150 total. However, you won't want to load it down too heavily.  If you're looking for sturdy, I'd recommend the Monokey cases, and the 5-Stars if you can find it, or else the Givi wingrack or toprack... probably $250-$350 with the topcase.
