Title: Powder coating exaust headers
Post by: The Antibody on December 03, 2004, 01:04:44 PM
I want to get rid of the whole sand and repaint every year thing. I'm sick of the rust. I heard that powder coating will hold up to the heat and actually STOP the rust. Is there any stock in this advice?

Either powder or ceramic coatings could work.  I'm sure you could find someone in your area to do it.  Call them up and ask what temp they are good to.
Good luck

PS. I've got some family in your area, Mansfield.

www.jet-hot.com
My friend had a full V&H system done in the aluminum finish.
Looks like polished aluminum. Cost $186.00, and that was from a speed shop in town that sent it out to jet hot. Might save a buck sending it direct.
I don't think powder coat can take that much heat.

powder coating can take the heat, but requires additional additives to the paint. takes the $$$ up a bit more.

i will be doing the jet-hot coating myself and baking it in myself. *access to a Keiln  ;)

we did the same thing to the headers on my small block truck almost 4 years ago, and they still look great! just have to rub them down with a fine grit steel wool every few months to keep the mirror shine!

hope it helps!
