Just looking through their Alpinestars stuff, it looks like Calsportbike's prices are comparable or a little less. And their email-for-price stuff can be pretty darn cheap.

I'm going to buy a pair of the super-duty boots and super-duty gloves. Maybe something else too I'm not sure. The prices with free shipping makes metricbikes a pretty good deal. I all ready gave the website to my fiance for christmas presents so I hope nothing goes bad there or else I'm going to get bitched at.
I'm actually not a fan of Icon Superduty gloves. I know that even the best glove can't always protect you from a breakage, but in addition to the breakage, I got one major and one minor laceration, and I can't find a mark on the gloves anywhere.

lacerations usually come from the hard plastic/carbon fiber in the gloves itself. i've had one and it sucked butt.
so basically flesh vs hard material...you know what already wins in that.

And that's what's so odd. There is no hard plastic or carbon fiber on the Icon gloves. Just leather and padding, and no padding near the lacerations. All I can think is that something on the car that hit me or the ground lacerated my hand through the glove without damaging it.
I went to Joe Rocket Phoenix. I hope to not test out whether they fare better in a collision. ;) At least they look cool...
I use the Olympia Ventor 750 Gel Street Gloves. I like em a lot, they're the only pair of gloves I've had, but they're super comfortable, and they've been through one crash already without incident.
They're almost a year old now, been through almost 4000 miles and they're still in fair condition. I'll probably get through at least one more summer with them.
I don't want big cuffs on my gloves :nono:

yeah..that's kinda odd. i would imagine that if you got lacerated with your gloves on and they didn't rip, that it could've been worse if they did? so i suppose they worked since they didn't rip.

Well, I would have expected them to take some of the impact in the form of damage to them. That's the whole idea of gear, IMO - like crumple zones on cars, they destroy themselves to absorb the energy of collision/abrasion. A car frame that is too stiff will transfer all of the impact energy to the cabin; likewise, I wonder if the gloves' design made them transfer the energy instead of absorbing it. That's all.
