Title: K+N RU-2970 Lunchbox Impressions
Post by: treybrad on December 13, 2004, 02:54:07 AM
Well, got it for my bday last month and it sat on my shelf waiting for finals and stuff to be over so I'd have time to pull out the carbs and rejet. Install was cake, rejetting was really straight forward; this was my 1st time to really open up my carbs. Put in 150 lg round mains, 40 pilots were already in and already had a washer under each needle.

Started up and runs like a champ. I'm not really seeing much of a power increase like I expected, so that's kind of disapointing. Did acceleration at light, medium and full throttle. No dips are surges, idles well. Sounds like a caged animal between my legs... and that's a good thing.

Only thing is the lack of a power bump. Already had a slip on, but was coming from a stock air box and filter so I was thinking I'd go for a test ride and really be impressed. That said, I'm not unimpressed. Runs as well as it did before and sounds even better. Can't beat the cost for a reusable filter either. I'm going to pull plugs tomorrow and see what they look like, but I expect them to be just fine.

Title: Bump...

The main benifit ... is your motor spins up a shade quicker, and you will gain a 500-1000 rpm up high ... Try it and see ... seat of the pants feel is hardly different ...
You had airbox and K&N in it and went to K&N pod did ya ... You should consider yourself a bit lucky is you didn't lose a bit of driveability down low ... under 4K ... The main reason I suggest people to go with airbox UNI or paper ... those are cleaner... air box K&N is a sorta redundant step ... its as dirty as clamp on, almost as easy flowing and in effect you gain that little bit for no extra loss when you do clamp on after in air box... so I do all or nothing ... in effect.
Cool.
Srinath.

Have you tried going down 1 tooth in the front sprocket?

Adds a little kick (all relative here though)

Yep. I have a 15t. It's not a big deal.. the bike is plenty fast, probably too fast anyway. Plus today on the way home I was having fun and it pulls a lot harder on the highway it seems. I was at 90mph way faster than usual. And Srinath's right.. I was at 12k before I could shift a couple times too... Much happier now!

I just received mine today...I didn't notice any difference in idle, but it's pouring buckets outside and though I'm excited to see what difference it makes, I'm not feeling that masochistic...
