Sent an email to Kryptonite after they announced a recall of certain locks. Two weeks ago I received a shipping label to return my NY Evolutin Disc lock. I returned the lock according to their instructions. Last week I received a new, upgraded lock. I'm pleased that I spent my cash with a company that stands by their products!

that's really not the whole story.
Most of their line of locks could be opened with the tube from a bic pen.
They denied it and denied it and denied it. IIRC some news station had a HUGE story about it... people would come back and find their bike (bicycle) gone but the locked locked to the post! not cut or anything!
finally after TONS of neg publicity they recalled them..
but yeah.. stand behind their products... *cough*
...well,...<cough>..at the risk of being argumentative, they DID recall and replace their product. (Carefully donning Nomex underwear, fireproof suit. gloves, etc...etc...) ...half the country voted for a president who has yet to admit to any mistakes....
As usual, motorcycling and politics are a poor mix.
Happy holiday to all.

i have a popular mecahnics with an blurb anout how they tried it pictures and all and it works it seems so easy. anyway if your interested its in the dec 04 issue
AFAIK, all of the Kryptonite brand and other knock-offs are vulnerable to the Bic-style pen EXCEPT for the locks that have a depression that is larger than the bic pen and have the 7 pins on the inside(high, low, high, low, etc...).
Don't ask me how I know this.
exactly how did they improve the lock?
The new lock has a "cross" shaped, narrow key. The body and hasp appear the same. Same basic construction but with a better "pick-proof" lock. Hey, if anyone really wants the bike, they'll just throw it in the back of a van and disappear with it. :x
If I am around to see it, :guns:
Thou shall not f*#% with a man's ride.
