Title: What type of charger, and what do i need to know for the bat
Post by: dorian chapman on December 16, 2004, 04:58:47 PM
I have drained the battery on my '03 GS from leaving it out not being run for 3 weeks, and now when i tried to start it that was the end of whatever juice was left in it.  So instead of taking it to the shop (the battery), what type of charger would I be looking at getting to charge this myself at home ? What should I know, or check for on the battery ?

Battery Tender Plus.  Best thing for charging scooter batteries.  Won't trickle charge the battery to death like most.

As for the battery, make sure the level is between the min and max lines on the face of the battery.

my friend may come over with cables and a car, is it ok to try to jump start it like you do with cars ? does it work "car - bike" the same way ? or is this not safe or will i reck anything ?

His dad also may have a charger but i assume it's for a car, is there a specific setting the charger should be on ? like all this AMPS, trickle jubber jabber ?!?

you can charge it just like you would do car to car but do it without the car running.

so you mean jump start the bike with the jumpers attached to the bike's batt. but with the car's engine NOT running ?
Is this cause the car's batt is bigger ?

Get one like this:

Automatic 12V 900 mA Battery Charger

Whatever you get, make sure it automatically switches to float charge rate so you don't have to worry about overcharging.
