I think we all have a mental list of those things, some we'll manage, some we won't. I have just had to add this to my list. Crossing the Tarn via the Millau bridgeon a GS above the clouds. It was a Brit architect but only the french would have actually done this, they build an amazing structure, then they build the roadway curved so that you can see it as you cross.
By the by it saves about four hours getting to south of France and cost 3.5GBP or about six bucks to use it, bargain.

its gorgeous.....
i remember the cadillac ad that had that bridge as the scene.. i wish i knew what bridge it was back then.
I hope they have good sidewall bracing, it wont be fun to be in an accident and go off the side.
I wonder what would happen if an Airbus jumbo jet laden with fuel smashed into one of those lower pylons? I hope they're designing these structures to withstand 21st century social activism.

No that wont happen ... France is in bed with the terrorists ... Ha ha ... love it ... Dont start beating me ... I could'nt resist ... Oh what am I saying its the French ... They'll prolly surrender ... Oh well someone stop me ... well no one ... I guess everyone hates the french ... ha ha
Srinath 3 France 0 ...
Cool.
Srinath.
Way to ruin what started as a nice thread srinath.

So I am the Ed_in_AZ to the french ... I feel so proud  ... stop you're making me misty ...

I've always wanted to go to Cuba and swim and fish in the beautiful waters along the coast. Perhaps after Castro is gone and there is minimum danger from either governments, I will go. Y'all all have a Merry Christmas (I can't STAND that "Happy Holidays--Season's Greetings politically correct bullshit/trash). MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Mr W, the same to you, Merry Christmas. Srinath, you keep on, all the time you are rubbishing the French you are leaving us "Island Dwellers"
alone. Crickets gettin' interesting. Bon Noele. Nice lookin' bridge though, you gotta conceede that.
Strange game aint it ...
India struggles and gets beaten by pakisthan, but India can give australia a good beating ... Yea the 2 to 1 loss in India not withstanding ... should have been 2 and 2 if not for the chennai test washout with 219 for a win and 10 wickets for India ... but Pak and most other countries get ground to pulp in Aus ... Like that whole ranking system is meaning less ...
England OTOH ... lost the tour game in SA ... and now look like are going to bury SA in the first test ... wicked I tells ya ...
England VS Australia is the next landmark ... I think its gonna be close ...
Bangladesh ... OK that isn't worth even saying ... they ket Zaheer Khan get 75 and add 133 for the 10th last test, and ganguly and the spinners add 124 for the last 2 this test ... sad ... dont want to beat them that bad, at the same time ... inevitable ...
Cool.
Srinath.
Cricket HiJack!
Yeh, you are right there, next summer, I think we will get the tourists at Canterbury- half hour from me- I might even catch a test day at Lords or the Oval with a bit of luck.

Don't reckon. It's usually an embarassing whitewash whoever wins. Not that I care. I know, my countrymen will probably lynch me for saying so, but I just don't care about cricket. :dunno:
I think your' right about your countrymen, they will drum you out of Tas for that.
Don't care about Cricket, I don't like Cricket, I LOVE it, it's not a matter of life and death, it's far more important than that etc, etc to paraphrase a couple of sporting quotes. Cricket and Chelsea football club fill my religion void.
Quote from: Cal PriceI don't like Cricket, I LOVE it,
You been listening to those old 10cc records again, Cal? Dreadlock Holiday has to be one of the classics. NOT!
to add to the hijack, ive always found cricket interesting, but dont understand a [self-censored] thing about it :dunno:
Don't worry about it, nobody fully understands cricket, that's why an international match last sfive days and can still end as a draw, the players are trying to figure it all out. Chess with violence is the way to look at it.
I dount its gonna be one sided for the whole series ... its going to be 1 sided on a test by test basis ... Like The Aus in India series ... or Ind in Aus series ... England has really stepped up their game of late ... Andrew Flintoff is the new Botham ... Australia has backed off their Pace pace and more pace methodology and started picking Kasper over Lee ... India has moved away from the spin spin and more spin philosophy ... these 3 Aus England and India are starting to look more and more like each other ... follows that ashes and Border gavaskar series are going to be more like each other ... Close competetion is fun ... and yamahon ... we can do cricket in odds and ends right ... OK then I'll start a thread and explain ... Or should we do it in the Tard farm ... Cricket for retard's ... no ... O and E it is ...
Cool.

Drive an F-1 car (extremely unlikely to happen)
Drive a Ferrari Enzo (unlikely to happen)
Buy a 993 TT (this might happen)

Drive a shifter Kart. Equally as fun (IMO, not that I have an exact frame of referrence), zero cool factor with the ladies, and a much nicer pricetag.
Before I die I want to take a month long camping/canoe trip in the BWCA (boundry waters canoe area) in Minn. and I want to hike atleast the southern half of the Appalachian Trail, which runs from Maine to Georgia, 2160 miles.

I have a friend of 20+ years (Blayne Hall) who bought an outfitting place up there several years ago. He's been running it ever since, along with sea kayak tours in Greece and the like. :o
Here's some info scanned off of the previous owner's brochure:

I already own a 993 but TT has a bigger smile factor. I tried go carts but I can't control them very well. GS500 is my current substitute for fun.
If you guys realy want to do these things then get out there and do them, at the first chance you have.
Looking back I don't realy regret things I have done, I wish I had done some better maybe and I have done some things that I am not too proud of but I can't change them so that's that.
The only regrets I have are things I have not done, I still have time to do some, Constantinople/Istanbul on a bike remains a distant dream but who knows. Don't spend your later years regreting not doing this that and the other, I believe we get one shot at this, you owe it to yourself to get the best out of it.
I wouldn't mind beating the best time at the GAP with my GS before I die. That would be loads of fun.
I think this thread should be revived 8)
Is there anytyhing that anyone would like to do before they die?
Wow ! last Christmas was it I started this thread, I had forgotten it.
I'll kick off again with Must dos....
1) I would still like to do the bridge in the first post.
2)Natchez - Baton rouge on the river.
3) That five-day rail journey in India.
4) Oz
5)Is there any of "Route 66" left?
6)Dover-Istanbul overland someday maybe....
Thats quite enough, anyone else ......
I want to knee drag on the dragon.
I want to ride a MotoGP bike.
I want to skydive.
I want to be a participant in a motorcycle race.
Live quite a bit longer! :nana:

Yes! I intend to ride it in a few years.
hey dood, lemme know when and I'll meet you in phenix for a beer.
Norman Foster designed a wonderful bridge but in that context a lump of coal would look good. Santiago Calatrava would have made a spectacular bridge...as he has many times before.
