Title: Mystery Honda Twin
Post by: Adam R on December 20, 2004, 01:16:29 AM
I'm curious as to whether or not anyone knows anything about this Honda CBR 450 SR.  It's a twin and I'm pretty sure it's air-cooled and was made in the early 1990s.  Anyone know anything more?

I don't know anything about it, but it's got a striking resemblance on the tail, past the tank/seat junction to our GS's rear-ends...don't you think?

I agree, the tail plastic is similar.  In some ways the bike even looks like a EX500 from the rear.  In person though, its much better looking than an EX.

If you do a search on Google, there is a lot of info out there.  My guess it that it was not available in the US.  www.bikepics.com has some more photos.  Every website I found is in languages that I cannot read or understand.

Pretty cool.  I had a 1998 Honda VTR250.  Also a nice little "sportbike".

Well, I know this CBR was not sold in the US.  That would hardly make it a "mystery" Honda twin.  I also know that the bike is a twin.  I do not know for sure but strongly suspect that the bike was built in Brazil and sold only in parts of South America.  Why it has a Honda badge on it and what it derived from, I don't know.

I also agree with wera643 - it does look a little like a Hurricane, especially if you have ever seen the Honda Hurricane 400 Aero (also not sold in the US)

werase, ever remember the old hurricane commercials?

ninja, seeing a storm, hides under the floor of wherever he was..  then the commentator dude says "even the ninja... hides from the Hurricane."

Sorry, hella off topic, just thought it was funny....

Of course, Kawasaki countered with a press release describing the Hurricane as a tropical depression.   :nana:

Maybe so but the Hurricane certainly blew the piss out of the competion from Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha before Yamaha came out with the FZR in 1989.

But even though the FZR proved a little more succesful on the track, I would still purchase a Hurricane over the Yamaha.  (No need to worry about sunken intake valves).

Looks remarkably like the very first CBR600s that we got here in Oz.  Made to look like big bro CBR1000.  In those days it was meant to be a sports tourer rather than the hyperbike it is today.

 Hurricane season must've run out of steam early in 1988 as well.  That was the year the GSX Katana 600 won the AMA Supersport series.
