Title: Lesson Learned

Never take a track bike on the street.

A buddy of mine just got his '02 CBR600f4 track bike friday.  He got a little excited and wanted to test drive it around the block after a saturday ride, it was a gorgeous day for december.  The bike of course is track ready and slick tires on it already.  I knew it was a bad idea.  So I follow him on my GS.  He has an '00 street  CBR600 by the way.

I told him to warm up the tires really really really really well because they are track tires, and not to lean whatsoever until the tires are warm!

Sure enough, on a right hand turn two blocks away from his garage, he gets a little overzealous and leans on it.  Going maybe 20mph,  rear wheel slips underneath him and he locks the front tire.  The bike falls over on its left side and he highsides.

The fairing of the bike is trashed.  He flips over the bike, lands on his shoulder and tries to lessen the impact with his hand.  I see him impact on his upper shoulder and part of his helmet and slides for a few feet.  He was wearing full gear.

Damage wise,  sprained wrist, rash on his hip,  broken collar bone, complete fracture. and one big headache.  took him to the ER to get xrayed but it just sucks to end a day like that.  Kinda got me rattled too seeing it happen in front of me.

I feel somewhat responsible , I should've insisted on saying no, but then again I guess you can't stop someoen from doing what they wanna do.

Sounsd like my friend on the day he got his ninja 250. he hadnt taken the msf yet so i test rode it for him and then after he bought it i rode it back to his place. Well he wanted me to show him a few things so we go into a empty parking lot and he loops around a few times and is doing ok.
After we get back to his house I'm showing him some more stuff and he then wants to take a spin around the block. I strongly tell him its not a good idea! He said he feels confident and is going to give it a try. First loop he comes back and says i'm going to go again. Second loop, time passes and passes 15 min go by. His pre alzhimers grandmaw keeps asking me who I am and where did he go. Finally, he returns to admit i was right and he wiped out in some gravel.

Friends just dont listen! Even if you do stop them its prob gonna happen @ some point when yur not around.

Most people don't realize the difference in race & street tires, especially if the slicks have been through too many heat cycles. Hopefully he learned a lesson and came out relatively ok. There is no blame or guilt that you are resposible for. Eveyone needs to be responsible for their own actions.
