Hey guys, lately i've been super interested in MotoGP and getting interested in all the rivalries, but im still rather clueless as to how a season works as far as, when it starts, how long it is, how often are the races, and how the standings and teams work. If anyone could explain this to me, or direct me to a website that explains it (havent had any luck so far finding one) It would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
Only thing i know is Rossi is king of MotoGP, and Maladin is king of AMA. Beyond that id like to know some more too. I just keep catching races around midnight or so making me stay up later to make sure Rossi is going ot win, lol. I don't think ive watched a race this season he hasnt won.
This is the "official" website, there may not be much going on due to off-season.
http://motograndprix.tiscali.com/en/motogp/index.html
I've gone to the main website, but I still get no info on how a season actually works, and the differences between 250CC, and 500CC classes and shaZam!
motogp = 500cc (changed name to motogp instead of 500gp when they introduced 1000cc 4strokes to the 500cc 2strokes already racing). 250cc is racing class below 500, then there's 125 too. Racers work their way up in cc. max Biaggi kicked ass in 250 but cant quite get it together in 500.
Rent the movie FASTER. It explains it all...its a documentary of one racing season for MotoGP. Goes into a bit about the rivalries, etc.
Is anyone else here planning on going to the MotoGP event at Laguna Seca in July?
I thought about a bike trip to watch a race. I think it would rock, but i bet it would be hot as hell.
The premier of Faster was here in portland!! I gotta go see it first night out.
What an awsome movie. It was my intrduction to MotoGP. I am hooked for life....
ohhh yea... Rossi is King.
But may the new MotoCzysz C1 dethrone him! :thumb:

valentino rossi is my idol. . .i wanna be just like him. . . but if i were to do that, i'm too late cause he started riding with his dad when he was like 2 years old! if i were to ever get into racing, it's to be just like him (and i'm not even kidding)!
i think it's the rivalry between rossi and biaggi that makes motogp so exciting. . .although the winner is clear, it's actually like a reality check when biaggi actually beats rossi once in a while (sorta like 'rossi is human' and there really is the possibility of him being beat once in a blue moon)
i know i'm just babbling,
but the real story can be found on that dvd 'Faster'
Go pick it up and i guarantee you won't regret it
(i watch the dvd almost every other day)
cheers,
joel
I wish garry mccoy would have been more competative
he was an awseome rider to watch ride
paternoster2012: you're right. . .if rossi's skills weren't the spotlight of motogp, it would be garry mccoy's AWWWWWWWWESOME slides that would be on everyone's #1 favourite list
Where can I rent, or find the movie Faster, would I be able to find it at like a regular video store like Blockbuster? If not, then where?
A lot of cycle dealerships carry stuff like that. Just a thought ... if you can't find it elsewhere.
EDIT - Here's one possible source: http://www.fastermovie.com/. There's even a trailer there!
A friend loaned the dvd to me awhile back. It was way cool :)
I just followed Kerrys link and bought the new dvd and T-shirt. It has the newer sequel version as well as the original. One word of advice though.
There are lots of crashes, so don't watch this with someone that doesn't approve or that worries about you getting hurt. Like MOM.
Now as for Motogp. The format is the sames as any organization. There are a number of races during a season. Points are rewarded for finishing position. There might be bonus points for pole position, but I'm not sure. The rider with the most points at the end wins the championship. So it's all about consistancy. You don't have to win all the races, just finish. It is possible to win a championship and never win a race.
The schedule should be posted on the website. Roadracing world magazine has the schedules of all the major organizations posted in the back.
Each organization has their own website with schedule info.
I race in the AFM (www.afmracing.org)
We get a certain number of points for finishing position and 1 point for each rider we finshed ahead of in the race.
Example: 1st place = 36points plus 1 point for each rider beat. So the bigger the grid the more points you get.
We don't do qualifying, so grid positions are by previous seasons finishing results. After the first race you're gridded according to your point standings. I ended up 2nd this year, so I'll be 2nd on the start line at the first race. Then after I kick ass I'll be back in 1st
You guys have to make it to Laguna for the MOTOGP. It may not be around for too long. It takes alot of money to keep these guys coming back. And unfortunately the crowds here are less than half of european crowds (which is not all bad). Except it's harder to generate the money needed for this level of bike racing. Even world superbike and AMA had to combine their events to make it workout.
I live about 10 minutes from the track, we could have a bar-b-q after the race or something. :thumb:
Hey, just got back from the insane mall, I picked up a copy of Faster from FYE, and I'm watching it now. Good stuff I must say. So what is it 1st place is 25 points, 2nd is 20 points, but how does it then get divided on after 2nd place
Points are awarded down to 7th or 8th (not sure). After that you get no points. It varies with each organization.
With AFM if you finish below the point cutoff, you still get 1 point for each person you finish ahead of. So last place is the only non points position.
Unless the grid is small enough to be within the points awarding spread.
Check out www.afmracing.org and look at the rulebook.
It will explain the points and other requirements. ;)
Ok nevermind, did a little research from the DVD and I found out, omg I cant wait for the new season, does anyone know what TV station covers these races?
www.speedtv.com
channel 607 on my directv satelite. digital cable carries it too.
