Is there a particular year that you need to purchase a muffler for? Like for a 96-97 CBR 900RR or 97 YZF1000?

Post by: The Buddha on December 23, 2004, 08:07:20 AM
Hey Se7enty7 - I got bis box from ya ... didn't open it yet ... looked intact and unrunover by the UPS truck ...
And Vegasda - all those 3 I posted are identical ... Buy a YZF 1000 cos that was 1 year only ... else they all seem the same to me ... some of those blue donuts they have in some seemed to have the offset bolt holes etc ... making for a 1 can fits all ... and I make the adapter plate and mid pipe so makes no diff to me.
Cool.

Title: Got it
Post by: The Buddha on December 23, 2004, 11:50:06 AM
OK got it ... got 13 ... hope that's not unlucky ... I feel lucky though ... they are a slightly larger dia and have 6 holes drilled in the wrong place and are 3/16th thick instead of 1/4 as before ... but they will work and work well ... so whoooo hoooo ... They didn't make them anymore ... but I found the scrap pile and burrowed till my hands bled and there they were ... order up ... and they get sent starting first week jan ... OK 89-00 some are ready now, some more by first week jan ... so we are good af far as these are concerned ...
Cool.

Hello,

I can get a YZF1000 CF wilieco muffler, and I am wondering if your flange will work for that muffler?
I have a 2004 GSF will that effect things?
Title: YUP
Post by: The Buddha on December 23, 2004, 12:03:19 PM
Yup YZF wiley co is the one, and I am making a 04 design so the answer is yes to all the questions ...
Cool.

so the install is pretty painless?
just chop the stock pipe install the muffler using your flange?
do i need to weld it or anything? or can i install it without a welder?

im willing to bet you have been asked this question so manny times.

no welding needed.

cut close to the last weld before the muffler..  like... 2 inches maybe 2.5 inches at most.

am i too late? how/where do i send the $$?
Title: No weld...
Post by: The Buddha on December 23, 2004, 11:07:17 PM
Yea no weld and cut and fit ... however some people have had their share of adventure ... before getting a fit - ask weaselnose ...
Anyway check is best ... $40 and shipping - Srinath Seshadri 9227 swallow tail lane, Charlotte NC 28269. I dont exactly know how many I have SS pipe for ... if its 89-00 or 01+ indicate that on the check in the memo field. for now I'll take everyone that wants one, might be able to get more pipe, or flanges (that is a huge question mark still) ...
Cool.

OK 1 last stainless mid pipe one left ...
And most likely 5-6 more I have round things for, and can make with steel mid pipe ...
Cool.

6 more holes? is it just for detail?
Title: 04 yes
Post by: The Buddha on January 05, 2005, 10:04:01 AM
That 04 was what held me up for so loooong ... and hence yea 04 ... Turns out ... the pipe is the same as old size for ~ 2 inches from the last weld on the header before it flares out to 2.1 inches ... so 04 pipe is same as 89-00 pipe ... just cut it right where it has the 2 inch pipe slipped on ...
And weaselnoz 6 more laser drilled holes ... Not just for looks ... they where there when I got it ... see I am picking up stuff off the scrap pile at different scrap places ... what they throw is what I got ... these have holes ... OK dont bother me ... and doesn't affect our functionality ...
Cool.
Srinath.
Title: Lemme see if I get more ...
Post by: The Buddha on January 05, 2005, 10:37:44 AM
Fettcols - If its just 1 its going to be a bit of a pain ... cos all material is cheaper and shop rates are cheaper by the dozen or 1/2 dozen ... so I'll wait a bit to see if more people order up ...
So basically I am checking if more people jump in ... I can make 6 I think, have 6 flanges ... and will be more efficient to do that ...
Cool.

Are you doing these new 2004 pipe/flange setups all regular steel or part stainless?  The reason I ask, I might order an all regular steel one too...if they don't have the bend crimps that result when stainless is bent.

yeah...might get one too if i don't like the "bend" on the stainless one
Title: Stainless
Post by: The Buddha on January 05, 2005, 10:15:22 PM
2xs - The mid is stainless ... OK I better clear up somehitng ... I am not exactly volunteering to make steel mid pipe flanges ... just that ... if there is numbers its possible ... I have 1/2 a mind to send off the round things to whoever wants to blow a hole in it and make a mid pipe ... OK if I get 5-6 orders I'll crank out the steel ones, remember you need wiley co's to work with these and they are disappearing fast off ebay ... down to about 20 the last I saw ... so instead of saying you want steel or this or that ... just get a wiley co first ... you can always argue with me later ... Steel, stainless crap ... somehting will be welded into a flange ...
OK that wrinkle in the bend ... Stainless doesn't crush much at all ... steel will shrink more ... whihc makes it stay un wrinkled ... trade off I guess ... I doubt it is ever going to get noticed ... cos its under the bike, 2 of the wrinkles (There is 3) are pointing to the wheel and if you paint over ... its going to be hard to see ...
Cool.

sooo :guns:  :)  does it matter which cans we get? for any particular bike?
Title: Wileyco
Post by: The Buddha on January 05, 2005, 11:36:31 PM
I think they are all the same ... but CBR 900 (95-98 ) and GSXR 750 (96-99) and YZF 1000 (97-99) should be fine. The flange has drilled holes to match your can's threaded holes ... as long as we know what your hole configuration is ... should be no problem ...
Cool.

Title: all are ready
Post by: The Buddha on January 06, 2005, 10:49:14 PM
OK all the flanges are done and ready to go, tommorow most likely I will pack it ... saturday its getting sent ... dont ask busy day tommorow ... job hunting is a full time job ...
Now for some bad news ... I am looking at another large length of SS pipe ... this time a 304 stainless ... AKA shiny stainless .... I might make the next round of flanges with those ... not steel ... So every one that wants steel ... I'm afraid you're getting stainless as well ...
Odd bunch of people ... stainless is the most expensive material there is ... its the champage of metals ... OK OK no one is talking gold or silver ... we cant make exhaust pipe from that ... and people want steel ... Anyway I like SS cos I have have the un used part lying about in my back yard and its never gonna rust ...
Cool.

Title: Yea
Post by: The Buddha on January 08, 2005, 10:23:47 PM
Yea its yours ... I guess I am making 6 more ... and its all shiny stainless mid pipes ... no steel for me ... Yea flanges are steel ... mids are SS ... OK this is larger dia SS pipe than the stock size ... so I am going to cut a slit and send a clamp along with it this time ... so stuff some exhaust tape in the middle and clamp it ...
Cool.
