Title: Don't be mopey, it runs!!!!!
Post by: moditup on December 23, 2004, 02:22:45 PM
Oh man, I am so cool.

If you remember a few months back, I purchased a 1977 PUCH Maxi moped for $90. The guy I bought it from got it running after about 12 cranks. I tried after that for 3 days to get it going, but alas, no luck. That was months ago. Today, I took off the carburetor, cleaned it a bit, and now it just takes 2 cranks to get it running. And it still runs really WELL!!!!. It was just sitting in this shed for like 4 months, and who knows how long before that at the guys place!

I took it around the block a few times, probably a total of two miles, top speed I did was 25 MPH. The top on the spedometer is 30... :o

Here's a short movie of me throttling it, I LOVE the sound it makes. Think Spiderman 2 moped. http://www.diasol.com/misc/running.AVI

Anyway, next up is to get the lights working, and repaint, rechrome. It also needs new tires as these are cracked a bit.

SWEEETTTT!!!!!

Man, you have moved on to the next stage of chick magnet.  I mean, forget the gixxers with custom flame paint or the Harleys that are loud enough to set off car alarms in the next county but can't be trusted to get to 60 in one evening; that gets the teeny-bopper girlies with vacuum ear to ear and the chain-smokin' leather mommas.  Pull that puppy out once it's clean and sparkly, run it down the street at 30 with that understated but strangely appealing vrum-vrum, and you've got it made.

I didn't sleep much this week, can you tell?

You need some blingin' chrome rims and some neon lights to really get that thing out of Babe Magnet catagory and into the Panty Dropper class.

A motorcycle you can pedal. Now that is sweet.

You should get it up to 25 again and start pedaling, see if you can make it go faster.

you should live in Atlanta. There is a whole group that rides mopeds in the little five points area. They ride around the clubs in the summer cruising for dates. Its like a little army of them. It is neat to see 25-30 of these things coming up the road.

Man, did that bring back some memories! My father had one in '80 and I rode it round the housing estate when we were visiting one year. THe ride was especially  memorable, because I had my right leg in a toe2crotch plaster cast.
He started it and held it while I wobbled off......alright once it was going, but I had to get back quickly before my thigh muscles seized up from holding my right leg out straight infront of the bike. At one point, I tried to rest the leg on the front mudguard, but landed on the front tire; the smell of burning plaster and the fine dust was something else.
Didn't pick up any girls, either.
Thanks for the blast from the past.

Being Cool.  Here's my youngest on his first motorized two-wheeler.  I gotta get him in the habit of wearing a helmet! And something other than houseshoes.  It goes 12 mph.
