Hello everyone! i am new to this board. I have recently purchased a 2000 gs500e but it was brand new.
1) Some times when i stop and push the clutch in it start to rev a little more than normal. When i let off the clutch, it goes back down. Is this anything i need to worry about?
2) I put 93 octane gas a few days ago and it seems to run fine. that is what the dealer recommended. I know you guys and gals know a lot more about this particular bike. what do you think?
3) I am curious about the different models. is there any difference as far as performance from 2000 to 2005 model gs500e or gs500f?
Thank you in advance for your advice. I look forward to learning about my bike and sharing my adventures with you all.
Have a great day! and Merry Christmas
My bike idles at about 1500 RPMs. When you pull the clutch in, it releases the load from the engine.
I run Supreme in my bike, which is I think 93 octane. I think the majority of people on this board run Regular, 87 octane I think.
The only difference really is looks. Same engine, same performance.
If your engine doesn't knock on 87, more octane won't do anything.
I ran 87 in my 2000 GS (AKI 87 spec in the manual). I run it on my 2001 SV(AKI 87 spec in the manual). I run it in my 2005 F650 (AKI 87 spec in the manual). No problems.
It's different for cars with knock sensors, but we don't have to worry about that.
87 is fine for the bike.
higher idle, especially when the engine warms up is due to the bike carberetors having small jets. This is for emissions in USA. For the time being adjust the idle down when its hot (hot should be jumping to about 3k rpm). I reduced it when hot to about 1500-1800 and it still started up fine. Long term solution is to rejet the carbs with proper 40 pilot jets, up from the 37.5 stockers.
this is what I'm told:
Due to the fact that it's harder for higher octane to combust, and that it has more pressure, you save gas when using a higher octane.. don't know how true that is, but I believe it.. I get more milage out of higher octane than when I buy cheap 87 octane...
BTW: You guys running 93 octane supreme, LUCKY YOU! ! ! ! here in California, our supreme is 91 octane, prolly costing twice as much as what you are paying for your 93
