Title: Fairing mounted mirrors
Post by: fettcols on December 30, 2004, 10:18:18 AM
Has anyone tried mounting mirrors on the 500f that have the turn signals built into the mirrors?

I searched and this is the closest match to my question topic...

Does anybody know what is the mount bolt pattern of the new GSXR mirrors with the integrated turn signals on them?  In other words, what is the distance between the two bolts (only two bolts, right) and the bolt size?

I would like to retrofit them to my Hyosung, which uses the mount pattern as a CBR 600 F4i 1999 -2003 (2004?) , since I have broken both turn signals and one mirror... I figured it has to be cheaper than ordering these parts from my dealer.

I would appreciate this info immensely

Airbrush did it on his F model. Try searching for something by him.

yea i did ha ha ha and it will not just bolt up. but it can be done if your good with a grinder and jb weld.

what you do is only remove the one screw that hold the mirror in place (the stem one, not the base plate)

next, you have to take apart the new or used gix mirriors, theres going to be come cutting.

on the right and left one, drill out the base plate on them so that it looks like the gs one with out the base plate.

so now you have two rods that the mirrors bolt to. on the mirror sides of the left and right grind down all of the raised area so that it's flat.

now on the end that connects it to the bike you will need to notch it.  mount it so it is aiming up not down when installed, now gring the rasied lip on it so it fits in really nice. take your time and try to make both the same but doesnt matter as you can ajust it when you now install it and tighten it down.

ok now you have the gix mirrior stems mounted, take one right or left for the side your going to work on.
i would sugest a second set of hands, hold it up to the end of it and have helper not were it looks best

(be sure to have on the center stand, as when i got this far i had about 12 beers in me and it was on the side stand, it looked like crap in the mornning)

mark this in many places.  dont jb weld it just yet,

ok now, remove the mirrior stem not the mount base. this is so you dont miss and have to make another hole. when you drill for the wires to run through the faring and the fairing brackets. (do both while your here to save time)

ok put the light back but leave it lose, run the wires down the mirror stem and then inthe fairing. reconnect  the stem to the base.

ok line up the marks on the stem and mirror and jbweld it. (this will take some time and be sure that you buddy is making sure it is lined up and looks good. as the other side will need to be done the same way and match LATER ON)

wire it up and test,

ok that side done, do the other the same way but be sure that they both look the same when down and wala gsxr mirrios for the gs

seems like a lot but the end result is great, just take your time and limit the beer buy the end of the prosses or it looks like crap

Thanks a lot for your write up... yeah, also got feedback from the ebay seller of the GSXR Mirrors and confirmed that there is a 1/4" offset between the two bolt mounts.  I like your approach of grinding and welding but it may be beyond my hacking abilities...

I'm thinking I may go the route of using a flatbar to attach to the original mount, and offset from those bolts,  drill two new holes to accept the mount pattern of the new mirrors

one problem with that. the mirrors will hang down realy low, and look goofy. i tryed that two.

realy it only took me (minus beer and finding the tools) 20 mins per mirrior to complete

tools needed

+screw driver
wire cuter
wire splice
grinder
jb weld
marker
hex tools
drill and bits

I just fitted GSXR integrated turn signal mirrors on my ZX4. Not quite as easy as it sounds to fit them to the GS. I had to cut a hole my double bubble (sanded polished and rounded the edged) and mount them on a bracket which bolted to the back side of the front fairing support frame. But i also had to chop the base piece off and fabricate a new plate to mount them on. It probably took about an hour and a half for the first mirror then the other only took half an hour. They still need adjusting because the view isnt fantastic out of them. Need to rebend the bracket or remake one so they are tilted higher.
