So now I got pipe on and it seems to run great the only possible problem now is when I let off the throttle in gear and the rpm's drop about 1-2 rpm I get a lot of popping from the exhaust. Is this normal and the new pipe lets me hear it better, or is this not normal :dunno:
Popping can mean that either it's lean or you have a leak in your intake somewhere.
Oh, did you not rejet? If you get an aftermarket pipe you have to rejet or she will never run well. What's your setup?
The reason that an intake leak would make it run lean is because it would increase the air-to-fuel mixture. Your air mix screws might be turned a little too far out. You might want to start by turning them in a 1/4 turn at a time. Ride on it, see if it clears up, repeat if necessary. If you got an aftermarket pipe but you havn't rejetted messing with your air mix screw won't make a bit of difference.
ya i rejeted to this
127 mains, 60 mid, 22.5 pilots, 2.5 turns out, float height 14mm
New needles from factory pro on second clip and i use all the spacers off of my original needles.
v$h pipe and advancer and k&n drop filter
All bikes will back fire some. With a stock exhuast you do not hear it as much. Air leaks will contribute to additional popping. Check the gaskets at the head and at the mid pipe joint, if there is one. Small popping is nothing to worry about but excessive back firing can be harm to the packing in the can.
If you've ever watched a NASCAR race or typically any other race, you might have noticed as the cars enter the turns there will be a similar popping sound and fire shooting out of the exhaust. This is caused by the overlapping of the cam from the ignition to the exhaust, basically the exhaust valves not opening late enough to burn all of the fuel in the cylinder. This might account for some of the popping, since with the increased fuel flow there is an excess of fuel, yet not enough to make it run in a noticably rich condition that adversely effects performance. I would venture to say that the reason bikes don't pop and shoot fire out of the exhaust in a stock condition, while better from a performance standpoint, is because for one, the noise and fire is a little unsettling to some, secondly, all of the popping and fire means wasted fuel which is not economical, and thirdly, the excessive burning is not very EPA friendly.
i though it might be normal because or the cars from the dirt track.
So are you sayin u think it is ok. It is not reall lowd popping or a big backfire either.
The bike pulls harder then before, which is good. it is just that i am a dummie when it comes to diagnostic tuning. no experiece. I put togeter and disassemble it easy but tuning is foreign to me.
do you thing jet sizes need adjusted, fuel screw, or kneedel height?
Small popping is OK and normal...mine does it too. Big popping is a leak or lean condition. Big backfiring is your bike screaming "I'm lean!!!" If I were you I would concentrate on how the rpms behave... does it pull well? Does it accelerate smoothly? Are there any dead spots in the rpm range, points where it feels like the throttle isn't responding or is a little late or hesitant...those are the real things to look out for.
