Title: Lost my only key.
Post by: half liter on January 01, 2005, 10:30:04 PM
The usual sad story: Bought the bike used, no code, no spare key. Stupidly, I never got around to getting copies made.

I gather from other posts that a dealership/locksmith can create a key from the code imprinted on the lock cylinders. I am hesitant to start drilling out bolts. If I can get the seat off, is it east to get to the numbers on the seat lock, and will it work for the ignition and fuel? If anyone knows this and how to do it, I would really appreciate it.

couldn't you get a key cutted with the vin number from the dealer (like automobile)?  :dunno:

also, it's easy get the seat off...take the right side panel off...you'll have access to under the seat (lock). use screw driver to un latch the lock (you push this metal part to the left).

good luck...

for future reference, a competent locksmith can create a new key in 20mins or just by fiddling with the lock.

I lost my keys. Called the Suzuki dealership and they're charging me 18 bucks, but they're not going to cut it for me? They're just giving me a blank key. What's up with that?

$18 for a blank is what is known as a screwjob in the business.

For just the blank? The way I understand it is.. unless you have that little tag that your keys were handed to you on, you're screwed. Suzuki has no way of looking up the codes or anything like that even if you can get them the ignition cylinder... seems like I read that when I lost my key for a few hours... I also think I read that the seat lock isn't backwards compatible w/ the ignition.. there's fewer tumblers or something crazy. I think it was decided the tank would be the easiest thing to drag to a locksmith. Or maybe I got that backwards?  :dunno:

I don't suppose Walmart can cut a Suzuki motorcycle key. I got a truck key cut for something like $1.50.

My Walmart didn't have the right blank. I had to go to a locksmith. My blank is an Ilco X241 SUZ18... or that's what it says on the key anyway...

Ok, so I'm going to have a locksmoth come over and make a new key on the spot. Is that possible? And will it be compatible with all the other parts on the bike?

I just wanna know I'm not out of options.

I think a Volvo blank does the biz.

Drill out the bolts and take the ignition to a lock smith.  It cost me $30 to have 2 new keys cut when I broke my key and the 2.00 remake didn't work.  I took the ignition to a locksmith and was in business in under 3 minutes.  Having someone come out, it's gonna cost you proba $100.

The ignition harness is inside the headlight shell so all you have to do is unplug it from there.

I can speak with experience on suzuki atv's.  I lost my key, and went back to the dealership with the vin# and 3 days later i had a key.  This was on my 04 z250.  I assume that they could do the same for any zuki
