Title: valve tool interest
Post by: davipu on January 04, 2005, 09:43:28 PM
I was just wondering if there was enough interest here for valve tools,  I talked to my boss about it and costs of running the plasma/cad program is about 145 a hour for the first hour and 50 a hour after that. material cost would be minimal on top of that, as I'd be using leftovers from other projects. so I was figuring that it takes about 3 minutes to cut each one out so about 20 a hour.  so if there was enough intrest (about 40 people) the cost would be about 5 bucks a tool, +3.95 priority mail shipping.  sound interesting?

I'd definitely go for it...and could probably sucker Danny into buying one for that price too.  I could try the local dealerships too, see if they would be interested in picking some up to sell for profit.

Dave, I just sent you my "loaner" tool via First Class for $1.29 - and that was in a box that's about 3 times bigger than it needs to be.  That might give you some leeway on the cost of fabrication.

You use it to compress the valve spring (by pushing down on the cam follower or "bucket") so you can extract/replace the shim.

Does the inside curve of the tool need to be smooth?  Would the plasma cutter cut it that smooth?

nope, the CAD software won't allow the plazma to cut less than a 1/4 inch radius, so it is either alot of grinding or I find a lazer shop that can cut them.

well, i don't know about everyone else, but since the MotionPro tool is around $30, I certainly wouldn't mind paying more than $5 if it will end up costing more.... I'm sure just about everyone would pay at least $10 for one...

ok, everyone,  I feel bad for not responding earlier but this is the first time I have had access to a puter all day.  I really don't want any money untill I have them in my hands finished and ready to ship. as with all custom faberication things, if it can go wrong it will, so the last thing I need is to have money from everyone and then not be able to deliver on time.  and if anyone has any questions on what I am talking about just PM Srinath and he will school you on what happens when people unexpectedly go on vacation, don't do small orders, all the fun stuff.

ok, the other thing I was waiting on was our leader to give the ok to the plan.  so the plan was to, if everyone wanted and was cool with it, to charge 6 bucks instead of 5 and the extra buck was going to go to soupport the site, in exchange you get a super cool valve tool that is stamped gstwin.com  on the side.

ok, i finished grinding them down to whare they will work, they didn't turn out as nice as I planned but they will work.  I scrapped the stamping idea, as I found out yesterday afternoon that I am going to be in San Diego on saturday, so who ever wants one my paypal ID is davipu@yahoo.com just put the quanity requested and the gstwin id in there so i know who to cross off the list.  I will be doing the first shipment friday afternoon so whoever sends money before that will get them by wednesday of next week.  checks and cash if you perfer can be send to my home address
David Imel
1022 Oak st
Silverton Or 97381-1815

I will be back here by the 14th so all the remaining ones will be shipped then.  I think on the next set I am not going to mess around and just get them lazer cut so I don't spend 45 minutes grinding on each one. :x  if there is any problems whatsoever, just let me know and we can work something out.

ok, everyone who sent me money already, I mailed them out today. other than the two canada ones they should all be there by wednesday.  oh and the crappy stamping job,  nobody paid any attention to my earlier post about scrapping the idea (due to time restrictions.) so I stamped them by hand myself.  the letters whould have been straight and evenly spaced if I wasn't shivering so bad when I was doing it.  so ok. I still have about 20 more for all the other people that siad they were interested.... adn a few extra ones for anyone else if they're interested.
