Title: Quick tip, bar-end bushings
Post by: cummuterguy on January 09, 2005, 08:39:51 PM
Hey, recently I replaced the handlebars on my 2000 model, using a set of stock bars for a 2001 (bought from JetSwing)

I discovered that the bar-ends were different, the 2000 ones have welded inserts that the bar-ends srew into, while the 2001 bars just have a rubber bushing you insert and tighten to expand.

I got both new bar-ends from JetSwing as well, but I didn't have one of the bushings, so I thought I'd have to fabricate one by cutting down an old bushing or something.

I went to work to looking for something suitable to make a new bushing (I work in a tire store) and discovered something that works perfectly, better yet absolutely free! :thumb:

The base of a rubber valve stem (just your basic car tire valve stem) not only has the perfect inner and outer diameter, it's tapered for easier installation, yet grips the inside very well!
You can find these all over the floor of any tire store, I'm sure no-one will stop you fron taking a few. I used 2 per bar-end. I only need to rig one, but it felt better then the other side with the stock bushing, so I did the same rig for the other side.

I would have put the pictures right on the page here, but I'm sick of trying to do that, it never works right :x

It's ok to waste bandwidth for the sake of bigger pictures...
