Try using the Search function (see the link at the top).  There is a procedure in the How-To section: http://www.gstwin.com/adjust_valves.htm.

Also, there is are two "loaner" kits (many thanks to Srinath and Kerry) which members are mailing around.  The kits include an instructional DVD video, valve shim chart, and most of the tools you'll need.  See http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13610 for more info.  Note that you may already have most of the tools to do the job.

I'm still not sure why Marc removes the airbox and carbs in that How-To....  :dunno:

If you would like a 1-hour Windows Media video on CD, and you don't want to wait for one of the valve adjustment toolkits, see the GS500 How-To Video Series (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13483) thread.  Prices (which only recover my costs) are listed in the first post on the second page (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=115705#115705).  At the moment I'm still only offering the "Rough Edit" video, and only on CD.  One of these days I'll finish the final version and offer it on DVD as well.

If you look at the Carb Rebuild How-To, you'll see the same set of pictures for removing the airbox and carbs prior to rebuilding the carbs.  It appears that Marc did both the carbs and valves at the same time, so his instructions for doing the valves include some unnecessary work.

Maybe we should look at updating the How-To section at some point.  There's some redundancy with the FAQ forum.  Perhaps the How-To links could point right to  threads in the FAQ area, and we could update the info, where necessary.

Are we talking valve timing, as in degreeing the cams?
Or just putting the cams in correctly with the stock timing.

Oh, I see I misread the question.  Yes, if you bought a bike which was (say) degreed for racing, then you may want to return it to stock timing.  See http://gstwin.com/racers_corner.htm for a quick into.  Personally, I'd probably just learn to riding at 7k+ RPM :) .
