I bought a new battery for the bike the other day. It's an Energizer brand from Pep Boys, same as stock except the vent is on the left side. I filled it up as the directions said, then hooked it up to my new mini battery tender. The light indicated it was charging for about 8 hours. Then the light switched to green, which I gather means the battery is fully charged and now just being "tended". I left it like that overnight, then unplugged it this morning.
It's gonna be ~30 degrees here for the next couple weeks, so I won't be riding. Should I leave the battery unplugged, plugged in, in the garage, inside the house? Just put it in the bike and quit worrying about it? :lol:

I store my bike inside my garage... but it does get down to probably 50 or so in there.. I plug it in every couple days... but I don't leave it plugged in. I've heard of those batt tenders going haywire and not stopping the charge on them
My bike stays in the garage too, it gets pretty cold in there. What you do is what I was thinking of doing, just putting the battery in the bike and hooking it up for a few hours a time or two a week.

I live in an apartment complex and have a garage w/o electricity across the street behind another building so using a battery charger isn't real practical for me. I charge a new battery once and put it in. Anytime the bike sits for a week or two or longer in cold weather it becomes hard to start. If it won't start, I just jump start with the car. Once it's started and a little ride taken, it will start again daily till it sets a spell in cold weather again. Seems my garage is always colder than outside. :lol:
Ran out of gas the other day for the first time in about 20 years and found out how important that drain hose on the battery is. Found an empty 20 ounce water bottle nearby and managed to siphon a little gas from a friends tank using the battery drain hose and with a mouth full of gasoline and battery acid I made it back a couple miles to a nearby town. :mrgreen:
