Get anouther tatoo !! :) i got one on my back of the devil playin my guitar it looks funny ! :)
ohhhhh well i think i look cool 8) lol (bad boy with my bling) lol !!
humm im goin to sit here quietly now ! srry for interupting u :thumb:
have 2 tattoos myself... one on my arm and a praying hand holding a rosary tattoo on my left back shoulder for my late baby brother.
planning on getting a couple more ...
the thing with tattoo nowadays is people get them just to get them. i would think if you wanna put somethin permanent in your body it would mean something to you. don't go thru all that pain just to look "cool".
piercings.....ehh...i had two loop earrings on one of my ears when i was younger...but i removed them and they closed up now....i suppose i outgrew that. hehe. :dunno:
I know both tats and piercings are very popular in some circles, but I just don't get the appeal of them. To each their own, I guess. Just remember to go for a reputable artist who uses sterile equipment. After all, Hepatitis C is for life and HIV... well, you get the idea.
chinox22x, that one of the rosary sounds really cool, do you have a picture?
Quote from: iandunnchinox22x, that one of the rosary sounds really cool, do you have a picture?
here you go...this was the day it was done...a little shiny from the anti infection cream
cool :)
Hey that's the indian "namaste" hand gesture.
I myself want to get a tattoo of a piercing ... yea that'd be so cool ... is it a tattoo or a piercing ...
Cool.
Srinath.
I had nipple ring at one point but then I really got into Jui jitsu and after one night of forgetting to take it out I had had enough and took it out permantly. NEVER get your nipple pierced, it hurts like hell and you get some scar tissue in your nipple when it is removed so your nipple is never the same (the only plus is that a lot of ladies really like them....so change that never to a maybe but be forwarned)
i have 5 piercings in my left ear, 3 in my right, and one in my tongue. one tat on my right ankle.
i say go for it....
I haven't found a metal yet that doesn't bother my skin so I gave up on peircings (ears: had 6 in left, 2 in right)...peirced my tongue once (OWWWWWW) but took it out the same night b/c the bottom ball fell off.
Think long and hard about peircings...because you know you won't keep them in forever, so think about the scars that are left behind. I saw one chick who had her cheek peirced and took it out - the healed hole basically gave her a man-mad dimple when she smiled. It didn't quite look right, though.
I have a bunch of tats, too.
I have one earring in my left ear. I thought about getting my tongue pierced, but decided that it wasn't worth the discomfort and since I am taking japanese right now, I didn't want to deal with the possibility of having to re-learn how to pronounce everything and making it harder for other people to understand me.
As far as tattoos go, none yet and I can't think of anything that I would want on my skin for the rest of my life but I'm not against the thought of getting one. I would just have to come up with something that would mean that much to me, and I don't really see that happening.
lots here. 4 lobes (2 in each ear), one set in each ear is a 0 gauge, left ear industrial 14 guage, left ear rook 14 guage. right ear conch 12 guage. thinking about getting some dermal punching done in my right ear cartilage, goin in a semi arc across the top, 2, 4, 6, guage in order.
as far as tats go, right forearm wrist to elbow "TU TE LIBERATE" in roman font. thinking about a few more that i'm going to be getting soon. going right bicep with a broken compass with the words "we find ourselves in the same old mess" circling it. Flogging Molly lyrics for those of you who havn't heard them, and fairly meaningful as well if you ask me. piercings and tats are a great time. while nothing to enter into without weighing your options and thinking about it, they're deffinately nothing to worry about, and nothing that's going to ruin your life. i say live it up, and get as much metal and ink as you need to be happy.
edit: oh yeah, left eyebrow curved barbell 16 guage. had it for so long, i forget about it all the time.
OH y'all wanna hear somehitng totally strange ... I even forgot ...
I got both my ear lobes pierced ... when I was 10-11 months old or so ... wore an earring too till about 3 ... now they are both closed off being un used in 33 years ... ha ha ... youngest ear piercing ... take that suckers ... Who's the man now ... ha ha ha ...
Cool.
Srinath.
i like tat's got my back coverd and most of my arms. and needing more much more, why stop. see y'all.
any artist here?...i have an idea...but no tattoo artist in my area can design the tattoo i want...
sleeved up both arms,front,back and side,two on legs...have about 60 tat`s in....Mine you some are sh***,some ok.
Had them done 80`s late 90`s ............looking back, maybe to many!!
still thats life :thumb: tony
total 6 piercings. 2 lobes, cartilage, tounge and newly done nipples! the only one that bothered me was the nipples. after a few days the pain receedes but its been over a week and they still get crusty inbetween cleanings. they say 3 months before swimming again (screw that) and 5-6 months to totaly heal. we'll see if they stay in or not

Get your clit pierced.
Quote from: davipuso I have a couple tats allready and am thinking about getting some percings, opionions/comments?
Ears are always in need of more holes... But, when they're new it hurts to put a helmet on... and even more to take it off.
GO For It!!
Im still looking for art for a tat...>I NEED AN ARTIST!!
so i heard those clit piercing really hurt, for the first week. I've been thinking about it for the last couple weeks, this weekend either i am going to go ride up to somewhare and blow off two days of work or go surfing and see if I can find a good artist that wants to kill a sunday inking me.
Quote from: davipuso i heard those clit piercing really hurt, for the first week.
And this is something you're worried about - why? :P
Oh, for the record... lobe and tragus in left ear, five lobe and two upper cartilage in right ear, one on left side of nose, and one navel. Used to have the right nipple pierced, but I was playing rugby at the time, and those two don't mix. But if you get your piercings at a good place, and keep them clean while they heal, they'll heal without scarring if you take 'em out.
I've thought about tats, but my test for any body modification is to decide I want something, and then see if I still want it a year later. No tat I've thought of has stood up to that test.
I have one tat, a gecko on my abdomen (I raise leopard geckos), and have had a couple of piercings - two in left earlobe, one right, navel, eyebrow. I don't wear any of them any more, and except for the left ear they've all closed.
At one time I was seriously entertaining the notion of getting a prince albert, but I decided that it would likely interfere too much with my sex life (I'd be afraid of damaging condoms) and that I'd likely hate having it later in life.
I have scorpion tat on my right arm

Oh, baby! The nose ring! One of my best friend's girlfriend just got the left side of her nose done. Sooo hot. Sooooo freakin' hot.

Innie. I'm not a fan of Audis.
i think nose piercings make a girl look like a smut 9 out of 10 times. there are some girls it looks ok or even good on (the last girl i was seeing) but for the most part, it looks smuutttyyyy.
I have one tat so far, no piercings. Planning on getting a couple more tats here and there as budget allows. The one I have now is an artistic rendition of the logo "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance" (philosophy book by robert pirsig) :thumb:
I dont like tats on girls, personally. And nose piercings can be OK depending on the girl, I think they can be kinda cute. I had a GF with a clit piercing, and that was over-rated. All the other ones on the face, I am not too impressed with on guys or girls. Looks kinda tacky, I think. :dunno:

i had a girlfriend with her septum pierced. she looked really cute.
she also had her nipples pierced, which looked cool but didn't work out so well. no matter how gentle you try to be, you couldn't play with those things for 10 seconds without them getting sore.
current girl i'm pining for also has a septum piercing.
Quote from: indestructiblemanyou couldn't play with those things for 10 seconds without them getting sore
UNACCEPTABLE!!! :nono:
Yeah... I've heard that some girls have that with Clit Piercing too... What a waste!
I am going to get a tattoo on my shoulder when i can afford it. I have one peircing, Prince Albert, and the current girlfriend loves it. As long as you stick with ball ends and good condoms you are ok. Birth control is the other safe guard. I got it a couple weeks after my wife left cause I wanted a peicing that could be functional and would keep my mind off sex for a while. I plan on getting more peircings as well in the future.
I'd say go for either just do like Roadstergal says and think seriously about you get it done and find a good reputible artist. Its better to pay more than to get a good deal.
Ja, if you go to a place, make sure it's clean, that it has a clean environment seperated from the main sales area for the piercing and another one for the tattooing. Make sure they buy new needles for each pierce or tattoo, and that they're autoclaved before use. Ask to see the autoclave inspection certificate, and make sure it's current.

alright, i guess i'll add to this tattoo thing... here is a link that has my tattoos (and my wife's orchid tattoo). ENJOY!

I think I'm too much of a kitty cat to get a tattoo at this point in my life, but have any of you messed around with henna? It's a temporary tattooing ink that can be found relatively easily.
That red dragon is SWEET!

Haha  I don't think the tat really hurt as bad as I thought it would have. I mean yeah it hurt a bit but it wasn't anything that was intolerable. Like they say, it's kinda like a bee sting but just lasts longer. After 3 hours into mine, I had it phased out and it was more of an annoyance than a pain. I bet a lot of it has to do with the artist, gun, and technique too. For example, the outline of mine wasn't nearly as bad as the shading/coloring in because the needle head was a little different. Kinda lie a different "brush stroke", I guess.
Good idea: Get a henna tattoo of hat you would like the real tattoo to be of. Let it last on your skin as long as it can, and if you still like it by the time the henna one goes away, then go get it as a real one. Hmm.

That's a great idea. I'm being a kitty cat not because of the pain, but because I'm afraid, two weeks after, I'd look at the tat and say, "wtf was I thinking. A dog?"
What I really want is a black sillouette of my greyhound running. Something like this (minus the words and such...)

Phil 4:13 is one of my favorite passages. Very nice.
hulap0pr - Depending your the artist you go to, he might talk you into modifying that a little bit. Some artists have a vision of how it could loo really cool and it is up to you to either trust them or not! I put some trust into the one I went to and let him add some stuff to the idea that I had and I am soooo glad I did! He made it look 100x cooler. He added some shadings, colors, a border, etc. That way it isn't just an ink blob on your skin, it would have real artistic merit to it. Not only that, but they can make it easy to "add on" if you ever wanted others near it. Ever notice how come people have "a sea of tats" that just kinda flows, even if the tats really aren't related? That means they got a good tattoo artist! And when you do go, don't skimp..go to the most experienced and most reputable, not some sham artist with dirty needles and ink he bought on eBay.

Daniely, Phil. 4:13 is one of my favs too, obviously... heh heh.
...thanks!
I have 5 tats, and 3 piercings(each lobe 6g, & eyebrow). First thing i'd say is be damn sure it what u want. my personal feeling is that i cant pick something off a wall, all my tats have a meaning to me, and i always have input in the design. If thats your feeling as well, i would highly suggest finding a full custom shop. My 2 favorite tats of mine, are my bleeding purple rose on my left arm i got for my late uncle, and the other is a custom chrome tribal that goes from just below my knee to the middle of my foot, and all the way around. I've got about 10 hours into my leg so far but its not done yet. Ihave pics, let me know if ya wanna see em. Important thing to remember is a good tattoo isn't cheap, and a cheap tattoo isn't good. I have paid a lot for mine.
rychrger72, i'd liek to see your tattoos. can you shoot me an email with them?? natecoop2000@gmail.com
thanks man!
Here is my tattoo (first and only so far, plan on getting another in a couple months)
It is a rendition of the cover art logo for Robert Pirsig's philosophy book "Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance". Excellent book if anyone is looking for a good read :thumb: It is also where I got my GSTwin.com screenname "Phaedrus" from, even though it was originally a greek word meaning "wolf" and the title to a Platonic dialogue. Never did read that, tho.
Anyway the pic was taken right after I took the bandage off later that night. It is still shiney from the "tattoo goo". It's been a couple years and it still looks really good! A lot can be said for the proper 'aftercare' of tattoos.

<Esoteric_Threadjack>
I guess you haven't had the chance to read the "Introduction to the Twenty-fifth Anniversary Edition"....
Starting on the first page:
Quote from: Pirsig[...] the book's failures [...] There are two that stand out -- a minor one and a major one.
The minor one is that Phaedrus doesn't mean "wolf" in Greek. That was a mistake that grew out of the actual experience at the University of Chicago in 1960 that appears in Part IV. The professor of philosophy had mentioned that Plato liked to use names for his characters that suggested the nature of their personality, and in the dialogue Phaedrus, the likeness was made to a wolf. The professor, whose actual name I recall as either Lamm or Lamb, looked at me in such a way as to indicate he thought the title of wolf fit me. I was an outsider who seemed more interested in attacking what was being taught than learning from it. My hyperactive mind seized upon this as my definitive relationship to the school, and this worked its way into the book. But the character that Plato likened to a wolf was not Phaedrus but Lycia, whose name is similar to the Greek lykos that does mean "wolf". As readers have pointed out to me many times, Phaedrus actually means "brilliant" or "radiant". I was lucky. It could just as easily have meant something much worse.
Take your pick of what it means - I think it's a
fine screenname! :thumb:
<Esoteric_Threadjack>
Hehe, wow Kerry, how did you get to be so "darn" knowledgable about everything?? Thanks for clearing it up. I don't speak greek, thats just what I read/heard along the way somewhere. :thumb: I take it you've read the book also? I've been known to give out copies to my friends of ZAMM for Christmas. hehe. I've read Lila also, but was not quite as impressed. Even that is still my second favorite book, right under Zamm. :thumb:
You had every right to think that Phaedrus meant "wolf" in greek. I think Pirsig said as much in the original book - that's what he thought!
Yeah, I've read the book 3 or 4 times. It wasn't until I started the 3rd reading that I realized I could follow along in my road atlas. (You know how much I like trips ... and maps! :) )
Anyway, it's not that I know a lot - it's more that I remember certain kinds of things (usually useless trivia) fairly well. And once in a while I'm actually able to retrieve the stuff I want! :dunno:
Ja, "light" or "brilliant" - hence the greek myth of Phaeton, the son of the Sun God, who persuaded his dad to let him drive the chariot of the sun (Can I have the keys, dad, please?). He drove wildly, started a buncha fires, and Zeus killed him with a lightning bolt; the horses, once given their heads, took their normal course, and Apollo never let anyone else behind the wheel again.
Lykos is greek for wolf, if I'm remembering my mythology aright.
Quote from: RoadstergalLykos is greek for wolf, if I'm remembering my mythology aright.
Yep, according to the Pirsig quote on the previous page:
Quote from: Pirsigthe character that Plato likened to a wolf was not Phaedrus but Lycia, whose name is similar to the Greek lykos that does mean "wolf".
Whups, I didn't read that whole citation...
I'm a huge fan of greek mythology, and really like Robert Graves... I especially like Homer's Daughter. He took the stance that the tedious and genealogy-obsessed Iliad was not written by the same person who wrote the rather fun Odyssey, so he invented a female character who goes through a bit of a real-life version that she adapts to the one we know.
Sounds interesting. Did you ever read C.S. Lewis' rewrite of the Cupid and Psyche myth in his book "Till We Have Faces"? It's been a decade or two since I last read it; I'll have to tack it onto my reading list again.
Ja, I've read most of C.S. Lewis; he was a devout Christian, and that suffuses all he writes, but he is intelligent and an awesome writer, so it doesn't bother me where it does with others. You've read the Out Of The Silent Planet books?
Not yet. I picked up the 2nd and 3rd paperbacks at a thrift store a LONG time ago, but I don't want to skip the first one. Maybe I'll check it out of the library.
sorry, gotta add some more info to this thread regarding my earlier posts. i just finished up a cover piece on my left shoulder. here is the link again to check out the new work.

My one and only so far but i'd love to get more.
a bit late to this thread but...
15 years ago I had a nose ring for a couple years. took it out when an employer told me in not so many words, "leave it in and you'll spend your days in the back room drawing, take it out and you'll meet with the clients.". it was a career deciding moment.
I was always interested in getting a tattoo. In recent years, with the birth of my son I thought it would be nice to get our astrological signs tattooed on my back, my wife, son, future second child and mine. I'll have to wait until the second one comes though.
With tattooes being so personal though, I was intrigued when I read about writer Shelley Jackson. She is writing a book, one word at a time, in tattoo. You submit a request to be included, and if chosen she sends you a single word you must tattoo and document with a photo to her. This takes the personal aspect out of the equation and the tattoo becomes a way you connect to a larger idea. THAT is fascinating to me.
read more about it here:
http://ineradicablestain.com/skin.html
Re: earlier thread jack, I read a book that you might like Kerry, called the Preservationist. It is written by David Maine, I think. He took the story of Noah's Ark and adapted it into a novel. It is pretty wild. It has a bit too much "rooting" for your taste, I'm sure, but the story IS about procreation, in a way. Thread jack over.
I think that is pretty cool about the idea of a book made from tatoos. Could you reject the word if it was crappy? Let's say she sends you the word "crotch" or "the" or "lobe" or something, could you write back to her and say "nevermind, please send the word crotch to someone else"?
nope, you get what she sends. only rule about placement is that if you get a word naming a body part it cant be located on that body part. otherwise, the word you get is it, but placement is up to you. Also has to be in specific classic typeface. its an interesting idea in that the book will never be complete. people die.
That's hardly going to be bedside reading. I don't have enough room in my apartment for more than a terse sentence at a time.
