Being that in 2 weeks I will be an official member (actually my wife will be the rider) of an 01 GS500 (thanx daniely)....
....I need to start lowering the bike for my wife...
...She stands at 5'2...I'll be throwing on some lowering links (dogbones) but....
....if the gel seat sits lower than the stock that might save me some work...
....I tried to look into the old guy gel seat thing, but the links I checked didn't work....but I don't think she'll want me ripping apart her seat this soon....
any relevant insight is welcome...THANX
Suzuki sold a gel seat for the 1989-2000 models, but it did NOT sit lower than the stock seat:

As far as I know, Suzuki has never offered a gel seat for the '01+ body style. :x
I did find a gel seat but I think you're right....it looks as though it's designed for the pre-01 models....
looks like I'll have to keep looking around...
thanx....
You can also slide the forks up in the triple clamps to lower the front ( you might get an inch to an inch and a half at the front end. ).
If you drop the rear end you should also lower the front to keep the handling pretty much the same as it was stock.
Find some thick soled boots for her too...nothing ridiculous...She may be too short to ride this bike tho ( flat foot the bike is good...balls of her feet semi ok...tippy toe- too short..)
The Gel seat is in fact a tad higher than the stock seat.
Some folks have removed some padding from the stock seat. I personally wouldn't only because there's not much padding there to begin with!
lowering links coming soon...of course I'll lower the front end some...boots are a definate....if that's not enough I'll look into a ex250 shock...but I think she'll be fine....
...she could tippie toe my 98 gs....if I lower this one 2" she should be able to ball it easily...
....I'm going to talk to the corbin folks as well and see what they can do and for how much....
thanx to all for the helpful insight....
....now I've got to get back to my SV...
I'd stick with a stock seat...the corbin- even if you have it made lower- will still be wider and make it harder to keep her feet on the ground.
Good luck.
Just dont kill my GS, lol. Nah, i hope your wife likes it, If i can do anything to help get it ready for you before you get here let me know. After class tonight im gettin to work on it makin sure everything we talked about is done.

naaaa.....I'm just trying to help out my vretically challenged wife. I know she'll be allright, but she's just excited and a little anxious.
my brother had the same problem with his 04 gsxr 600, he took a carving knife to the seat and got enough to make the bike "safe"
daniely; where you the one w/ the white chin fairing? if so, does that go with the bike?
Nope, hes not buying any of my aftermarket stuff, im putting the bike back to stock for him. Ill have ALOT of stuff goin up for sale here pretty quick, watch the for sale forum.
well....I might buy some stuff when I pick up the bike....but then again I might not...of course I'll take what ever he doesn't want anymore....stuff that's laying around taking up precious space....
I have the white chin fairing, in fact I just installed it tonight, along with sanding my tank to #2000 and buffing the hell out of it(looks better than new and gave me a chance to use my new Harbor Freight angle polisher/sander)), installing the front fender, installing my one bar end mirror, taking the slack out of the chain, and attempting to install my old windscreen for the single headlight on the dual buell headlights. Didn't work.
