Title: Problems problems!!!
Post by: a-train on January 28, 2005, 03:16:24 PM
Hey everyone, i got a 00 GS that  is my first bike.  i'm having problems with the V&H exhaust and dynojet kit, and it baffles me quite a bit.  i'm gonna describe the problems as best as i can, but i'm not the best when it comes to the fuel system:

for about the first month or so of riding, the bike idled around 6000, and the idle screw didn't change it at all.  next, i noticed that the end of the pipe doesn't fit quite the same as the stock pipe, and i just replaced the V&H with the stock one, and the idle worked a whole lot better.  NEXT, i sometimes get some white smoke coming from somewhere on the bike that i can't quite figure out.  if anyone has put on BOTH the V&H and dynojet combo on their bike, please tell me i'm missing something!  i hate trying to ride and pop an accidental wheelie, not to mention my left hand is going numb half the time.  if there is a trick that dynojet of vance didn't say, plleeeeeeeaaase!

thanks,

a-train

Accidental wheelies on a GS   :?

Yeah what is that white smoke coming out of the engine.  I get that too after its been running hard (and probably right before the bastard dies)

From what I understand you are going to need to change your air filter as well, go with a K&N, someone else who knows better can tell them which one.

If you put on the stock pipe, the only places you should be getting any white smoke from (which I hope is just the condensation of hot exhaust gasses in the cold morning air) is the tail end of the pipe and a small drain hole at the bottom front of the muffler. If you did not replace the exhaust gaskets at the head when you put on the stock pipe, there may be two more places the 'white smoke' might be sneaking past.

Dare I ask why your left hand is going numb (I've heard it can feel like someone else is touching you...)?

Title: update on my post

well everyone, SOMEHOW the idle problem is much less severe, and my baby seems to be running a lot better.  i took her out last night for about 2 hours of total riding, and the idle is around 1300 or a lil less, the V&H seems to work nicely now.  i get a lil bit of white smoke which i keep thinking is coming from the header somewhere, but it was at night so i'm not sure.

cummuter guy: thanks for the offer, but i'ma keep the pipe probably cuz I won't get too much out of a 3 month old pipe.

and to address the "numb left hand" haaaa, basically the vibration from a constant rpm of 6 grand hurts my clutch grabbin
