Title: carbs are the devil and i hate them
Post by: nicebelair on January 31, 2005, 04:32:09 PM
so my bike is going in the garbage unless i can fix this, its driving me crazy!  so my bike starts fine, warms up fine. revs perfect. but i just cant get the thing to idle! below 3000 that is. turn the idle screw a pinch to drop the idle and it will die and pinch the other way and its right back up to 3000 and higher, why? why? why? :dunno:

And, you have the size 40 non-bleeder type pilot jets...

Well, Srinath is nearby if you want to send your carbs to him. Unless he's too busy, I don't want to speak for him. Just a suggestion.

OK Nicebelair ... open your mix screw 1/2 a turn ... You are 3K idle right ... 1/2 turn should bring that to ~1500 ... I set yours to 3 I remember ... you had both floats very high and float needles that had not much springiness ... but hey I have seen worse ... anyway you had high float and 2.5 on mix earlier ... Your floats are set right now ... you might need more air screw ...
Cool.
Srinath.

check the intake boots for cracks, or anyplace where air could be leaking in through a break in the rubber, i had the same problem a few years ago and it was a cracked manifold(intake boot) good luck

OK lets just say the problem wasn't likely there before he sent it to me ...
He rejetted it and forgot about it and sent it to me ... I open them, and the internals are covered in what looks like primer or rust or some nasty ass fine goo ... I cant read the jets, I chew the pilots taking it out ... yes very very common ... and finally see a pair of #2 washers under each needle ... ergo ... I was rejetting a well jetted set of carbs ... so I did exactly what was in it, and cleaned it ... and set floats and mix screws and sent it back last week ...
Anyway Yea hope it works now.
Cool.
Srinath.
