Title: Hi all, new gs500 owner
Post by: giant killer on February 06, 2005, 12:06:19 PM
Hi everybody, I just bought my 95 gs500 as my commuter and for my GF to learn on.

Its acutally a fun little bike!

I just have a few questions about the bike since I am not very familier with it.

What years were the bikes the same?
Are they basically the same bike as the 500f?
Are performance parts interchangible between the two-i.i. exhausts?
And fianally, could i bolt up fairings fromt a 500f or would it be difficult!

Thanks guys and I look forward to learning about this bike!

What years were the bikes the same?
    - 89-00, 01-03 and the F

Are they basically the same bike as the 500f?
    - same engine.  the F is cooled different?

Are performance parts interchangible between the two-i.i. exhausts?
    - exhaust are not interchangible because of the fairing.

And fianally, could i bolt up fairings fromt a 500f or would it be difficult!
    - getting past the practicality (price etc), a bracket where the headlight goes would need to be fabbed, and some holes need to be drilled in the frame.

eh someone say something if i posted bogus information!

04 fairing on a 89-03 ... working on it ... but looks very doable with some welding and some nifty bracket fabbing.
Cool.

89-95 have different front brake pads and front caliper from 96-00
other than that, any changes from 89-00 were very small cosmetic things, like mirror style and instruments/bezel, but those things are still interchangable, just different looking. 89 had clip ons, but you probably knew that. good luck.

for the most part, yes. There are some small differences, but 99% of the parts are the same.

The only differences that I know of were in the front brake. I haven't actually sat down to figure out exactly what is different, but the system used in for 89-95 is different than the system for 96-00.

There might be a few other differences. If they exist, they are going to be pretty minor. A good way to check is to use a parts site like Ron Ayers (//www.ronayers.com) and double check to make sure that the MANUFACTURER'S part numbers are the same for the model year of the part you are looking for as they are for your bike.

*edit* whoops, I put the wrong years down here the first time.
