i have an '04 gs500f and i got this crazy thought last night. instead of going for that undertail exhaust that everybody has (and which sounds completely impossible to do)....what about getting the race muffler from buell and using it? the exhaust that sits under the bike? do you think there would have to be major mods done to the bike? i know the center stand would have to go. would the muffler even work with a gs500?
any thoughts, criticisms....jokes would be greatly appreciated.
i would say the biggest battle will be ground clearance.
measure clearance from ground to exhaust AND ground to motor on a buell... then do the same for your GS.
it might work... :dunno:

I am sure it is possible, most anything is. I do not think that ground clearance would be much of an issue, but then I have never really looked too closely at a Buell exhaust. The lower fairing on your F would be a concern.
I have seen a TLR with a Supertrapp exhaust that exited through the belly pan. Could not really even see the exhaust.

:thumb: dude i just got on cause i had the same idea but with the smallest muffler i could think of.............. but i dont know any.
i have a exhaust system cut off at the Y conection so so far i am thinking that hair spray cans ill do  cause i am runnin out of steam with the RC51 cans i got, i am thinkin i'll just sell thoes off. :(
HEY Srinath what is the smallest can we can get are hands on for cheep
like the cingle cylender exhaust cans ya see in magazines like the hondas with the four pipes.....

hmmm....... that dose not work
hey kerry, or Srinath can i e-maill one of ya the pic i found i cant post it?
when i thought of this idea i was away from my bike...and i still haven't had a chance to look at it. but from pictures of an '04 it looks as though the fairing doesn't cover the whole bottom, just the first quarter or third. in fact, it looks as though the exhaust comes out from under their.
with it being a 'racing' muffler would that have any effect on the engine?
Yea Hit me ... or put it in the Wall of fame ... My email is srinath.the.man at gmail dot com.
Cool.
Srinath.
Just cut the pipes behind the footpegs. Who needs a muffler.

ok cool like this exhaust, but is it even possible for someone like me to get my hands on a few of em. and would they even work?
P.S. the wall is nice now how long has it been like this?
That is a 2-stroke bike and no that type exhaust will not work.
:x
I saw that a few weeks back when I was in a haerley shop and I liked how it looked, when I got home I checked out my GS and I didn't think there would be A) enough clearance or B) it would just about preclude using the centerstand, so I scrapped the idea.
Buells are dry sump. So they can fit the can underneath. Suzukis are wet sump. It would be cool but hard because of the clearance issues. I would think that an under seat would be way easier to do.
When I had my lower fairing on my GS, it was very common to scrape it while negotiating driveways. If you fit a very low profile system and made sure the fairing could handle the heat it might work. An actual Buell muffler would probably be too big and have a second input you would have to seal up (V versus parallel).
I've been considering doing a Buell style exhaust on my "project bike" ( the one I never seem to be able to get back to..).
There's not alot of room under there... You'd have to make it run to the rear-back to the front then to the rear again in a very short distance....
You need some length in the exhaust to make any power down low...(Tuned exhaust length....scavenging etc...)...
I was thinking of 2 different things to try....
First was shortening where the pipes come together....needs to be moved forward to give more room under the bike....then it needs to be to one side of the other...(clutch lever side is the way I am thinking...).
Run it back to where the centerstand mounts...then a 180 degree turn forward (not good for exhaust flow...) then another turn to the rear again and an exit out the right rear....
Use the center stand mount point as a place to hang it....
Now this will be basically a straight pipe...
My other Idea is to do the same thing but basically put it all in a shell that sits underneath...(May some sort of baffle or pack part of it for sound deadening....).
Will it look cool...maybe... Probably sound like crap and run about the same...
