It's sunny and in the upper 70's here. I have been out all damn day. Theres an old airstrip nearby that a lot of Austin bikers go to. It's pretty much a closed stunt track on sundays. I took my son with me and there were prolly 30 or 40 bikes there.
Some of those guys have watched Biker Boys a time or two too many. They were doing a lot of stunts and doing them well. I spent about 2 hours there and there were only 2 dumps. The bikes and riders were all ok, but DAMN it was cool. I am too worried about dumping my bike to even consider TRYING that stuff.
Nice indeed, around 75 deg at 2pm. Rode out to Lime Creek Road on the shore of Lake Travis. I meant to stop and take more pictures but I was having too much fun in the twisties. :mrgreen:

Same here in cali, slightly overcast and warm. To bad i need to fix the forks on my CBR before I can ride far :(, been rollin around town most of the day though.
its overcast and cold in sacramento.
It got above freezing here today!(barely) :dunno: But it looks like snow for the next week straight. I'm now hoping for an early spring and thinking/dreaming about when I'll bring my bike back up to school.

I have heard of lime creek rd, but never rode it. If your near Austin and want to take a road trip, I am trying to put together a trip down 1431 to Marble falls, then taking 281 to Devils Backbone and cutting back to I-35.
I sooooo want to ride Devils Backbone! I have heard its a helluva ride.

frost, use paint, hit view, then hit stretch/skew. change the number evenly til the pic comes to a normal size (usually 50-75% works fine) then re-save pic in jpeg format... done.l
I put 400 miles on the bike this weekend. Seattle to Portland and back. The bike ran like a dream, even though I was riding somewhere between 80mph and 90mph the whole way.
I had one slight scare... the bike started acting funny, like I was running out of gas, even though I knew for sure that I had plenty in the tank, since I hadn't switched over to RES yet...well, since my petcock is a little different than everyone else's, I accidentially left it open to the RES and ran out of gas while on a single-lane construction off ramp with very, very little shoulder room. So I was sputtering down this off ramp with an 18-wheeler barreling behind me at 60 mph. I'm sweating at this point. Finally the shoulder widens a bit and I'm able to pull over...seconds later the truck whizzes past. PHEW! I ended up having to push the bike uphill a couple of blocks to the gas station. Good thing because I was only thirty minutes out of Seattle on my way to Portland.
I averaged 76mpg...that's pretty good, right. Who care's if it isn't...it's way better than any cager.
No major mishaps except one other scare when I was taking a girl home from the bar and she was wearing my helmet and I was wearing my balaclava and a cop rolls by...He didn't stop, thank GOD! Maybe it's cause it was dark and he didn't notice I wasn't wearing a helmet, maybe he was distracted by my lady friend's fishnet stockings and miniskirt...totally understandable....happens to me too. :lol:
I have to admit...with the cold and being hung over and being blown all over the road for four hours today I was pretty beat when I got home...slept for a few hours. I don't know how people make those long hauls. It's exhausting.
76 miles per gallon. Man, that's horrible. Please tell me what you did to your bike to achieve such, ummm, terrible gas mileage! :lol: Seriously, I'm lucky if I get 45 MPG. Sometimes more like 38 to 40.

This was on the freeway only, from a roadside gas station to another roadside gas station, driving 80-90mph the whole time, in a full tuck.
Driving 85 mph helps. I think I heard that an engine reaches the greatest volumetric effeciency at full throttle...so, the higher your rpms the better for mileage.

Aww crap. I know it... I got off work at 2 and it was 75-80 out. The awesome part of the story is my clutch cable broke last week and even though Woods assured me that had one in stock, they in fact did not... Turns out neither does anyone else in 50miles... ugh. :guns: So I should be back on the road sometime this week when they get it in.
Anyway, it was a nice day, bike or not. Took the significant other out to the Oasis and had dinner looking over the lake in February in shorts and a t-shirt. I love Texas. :cheers:

IrfanView is also a wonderful tool. It's simple and personally, I think that it works better for image resizing than paint does. Just another option

The next time you run out of gas on RES (if there IS a next time) try using the PRI setting before you start pushing. I've only had to do it on one occasion, but it saved me from having to push the bike 4+ miles - half of which was uphill. (See

Believe me, I know what you're talking about. On my first (and longest) long ride I did 3,800 miles in 5.5 days of riding - BEFORE I got my big windshield. Going East wasn't so bad, but coming back West - into the wind - was murder on the freeway. I remember laying on my tankbag to reduce the buffeting, with the chin of my helmet on the tank, trying not to fall asleep as I rode towards the sun at an indicated 80+ mph for hours....
Having that big shield really does make the whole thing easier to take. I dunno - am I cheating? :dunno:

Ditto! I often crop in
Irfanview, then copy and past into Paint if I have to do any drawing, then copy and paste back into Irfanview for final resizing and saving. If I don't have to draw, it's Irfanview all the way. It doesn't hold a candle to Photoshop or even Adobe Elements ... but it's FREE!

I don't have a stock petcock. I followed your drawing for connecting the tank directly to the carbs. I have a brass petcock from the RES hose that runs into a T fitting on the main line...so essentially my bike is always set to prime.

Dom - do you ever have problems with it leaking? Can/Do you manually turn it off? I was thinking I had heard about fuel overflow and similar problems if left on PRI.. maybe that's just if you have other problems like a stuck float or something...
Anyway, if I keep having fuel starvation issues I'll have to build a petcock..

No problems whatsoever, and I think the 8 hours of riding I did this weekend proved it to be sound engineering. Thanks Kerry! :thumb:
Can I turn what off? The RES tank? Yes.
Can I turn off all of the fuel? No, but I can't see any reason to turn all of the fuel off unless it leaked, which it doesn't.
The reason why I had to run my lines straight to the carbs is because my stock petcock was a piece of garbage and caused air bubbles behind the lower "T" on my carbs. I discovered by using a temp tank(a gas can with a hose) that when I ran fuel straight to the carbs the bike ran excellent.
I guess my stock petcock needs to be rebuilt, but since I was able to entirely fix the problem with $7 and a trip to Home Depot I havn't bothered with it.

It is unseasonably warm here in KC. A balmy 61 degrees. Twenty degrees over the average.
Instead of going for a ride, I have dinner reservations for me and my girlfriend at 6 o'clock, right after I get home from work.
