Title: Throttle Problem
Post by: 96gs on February 15, 2005, 08:53:13 PM
OK this is starting to piss me off at this point. When I acclerate hard and get past 70 or so the bike acts like there is no gas in the tank, i switch over to reserve and nuthin happens, and there is like 2 gallons left. So I'm sputtering down a highway and get down to 20-30 and the gas slowly comes back. Can yall please tell me whats going on? This is my only transportation right now, I turn 16 next week and have to sell the bike to buy a cheapo car to do some other stuff so I want to get this problem solved before I sell it. Thanks.

Yea weazelz is right  ... but anyway you seem to have vacuum locking in the tank ... evidently a Honda shadow will lock so bad it can dent its own tank with the vacuum ...
Cool.

I've experienced this too.  I pulled over, opened the tank, then started riding again and it went away after about 1/4 mile.

Ok, since I'm still getting my mechanical abilities, how do I check if i do have vacuum locking in the tank, how to repair it, or anything else I will need to know about it. Thanks.

does it do the same thing if you keep the frame mounted petcock in 'prime'?

If it does, then check your tank petcock to make sure it's exactly center (groove verticle), then check your tank vent.

If it doesn't, you might have a bad frame mount petcock, (torn diaphram?)  bad vacuum hose to petcock, or clogged fuel line.
