Title: Summer Riding Pants
Post by: Vball24 on February 16, 2005, 03:35:10 PM
I'm looking to purchase some riding pants for the summer.  I have a Joe Rocket Phoniex Jacket already that was given to me as a gift.  Now I am looking to suppliment it with some cool pants.  These are a couple I was looking at:

Joe Rocket Phoenix Pants

BMW Summer Pants/Shorts

Any other suggestions would be appreaciated.  Since I live in Alabama we can expect pretty hot muggy weather for most of the year.  Thanks.

I had a pair of First Gear HT Air Overpants. I thought that they were plenty cool considering the fact that they were long pants and black. They had zippers up the side, too so I could put them on easily over my street pants.

Those Icon's look sweet, but I think the Joe Rocket's are probably "cooler" for summer weather.  The Icon's may protect a little better, but I know that if it's HOT, I may skip the pants if they aren't COOL.  The Joe Rockets are way cool (I got some, so I know).  On really hot days, I wear shorts underneath em.

Those Icon's are mesh, so I imagine that they would be pretty cool in the summer.  Can't be any hotter than jeans and I've never been to terribly hot with jeans on.

I'll be buying some mesh pants soon, but need the best armor possible, and those icon's look very cool.  The white, or silver, even looks great, and would be cooler still on the hottest days.

I figured I'd get the HT Airs, but now...????   :dunno:

The Icon Mesh pants are $105 at newenough.com and I highly recommend buying from them.

Hey I just picked up some Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants.  I live in the northeast so I spent a little more money because they can be used all year round.  The waterproof liner comes out and the panels zip off to become mesh for the summer.  Quality product, can't wait to try them out.  Bought it from Newenough.com

up until this point i havent really liked ICON.  they have those metal sheilds on a lot of their stuff. not my cup of tea.  but those pants are really cool.  i'll have to go to my local shop and try them on :).  white would be sweet but prob wont match my black/grey jacket, black and white gloves, black helmet, black boots, black bike etc...  i also really like the beige Beamer pants

i really like those icon pants... haha well i was just checkin them out again and i saw soemthing at the bottom.  they call it bill me later.  it seems like a good idea but i wanted an opinion.  basically u pay at least 3% but no less than $10 per month towards the product.  as far as i can tell there is no intrest applied unless u dont pay the full monthly amount.  this is the link to more information http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/storehelp.aspx?ID=71.  someone let me know if its broken.  what do u think of the bill me later thing?  i know its just like a credit card in  a way and u need to be careful etc..  but this means i could buy them today!

EDIT: new enough has these for $105

I have a pair of Firstgear HT Air overpants, and they'd be perfect all year round except that they're BLACK. What an excellent color for hot weather gear! Those Icon pants seem ok, but I'd rather not show up at work looking like a power ranger.

Does anyone know of other non-black mesh pants?

I have the AStars T-Stunt Airflo mesh jacket that's great, but it's almost all black too. WTF? Maybe I just need to do the "sun parasol" mod for summer riding. Does Srinath make those too?

I found these (http://www.newenough.com/product_pictures/f/firstgear_ht_air_overpants/front.jpg)  First Gear HT air overpants on my front porch this a.m..  I tried them on this evening and they fit perfectly.  I ordered based on my pant size.  Great service from NewEnough.

The inner pant is water proof, light weight and removable.  The outer shell is a very light weight material that allows air flow and has soft foam armor at the knees. There is a band of strech material just above the knees to allow for leg flex.  Both inner and outer have side zippers that run all the way up to the hip.  Two zippered pockets in the front.  One in back on the left.  Adjustable velcro straps on each side at the waist and at the bottom of each pant leg.  Reflective piping around the waist and part way down the sides.  Looks well made to me.

I hope to wear them while riding tomorrow, if it's not snowing.

You have a good point there. :x

It's cold here now so I of course didn't think about summer temps.

Oh well.  We'll see how it goes. :dunno:
