Title: Skinny guys and gear?
Post by: Eisenfaust on February 18, 2005, 11:48:10 PM
Okay, I'm just wondering if there are any other skinny guys out there, and if so, what kind of gear theyve managed to find that fits well. I'm looking at getting an Alpinestars GPU 2-piece suit, but I'm  unsure about fit, and cant find one locally in anything remotely close to my size. I wear something between a 32-32 or 30-32 pant... and god only knows what jacket. I *think* I have something like a 33" chest. The thing is, I'm 6'1", so most of the stuff that fits smaller guys is way too small in the shoulders, and way too short int he arms and legs.  :x  :x  :x

Anyone out there with suggestions for gear?

5'10" 130lbs. I have a 28" chest. I have found Fieldsheer to have the arm length I require in a jacket; pants fit, no problem. Fieldsheer has a new 2-pc leather set that is on their website this year. I wish I had seen it before I bought something else, that I wouldn't recommend for skinny people (TourMaster; I will/can still use it).

5'6", 120#, 36 sportcoat (chest), 29 waist, 30 inseam.

Alpinestars or other euro makes are more likely to fit. The american market is cut for a "larger" body type. I have Aplinestars and it fits great. If you have the budget you can get custom made stuff. Otherwise you run the risk (with oen peice suit anyway) that one of the dimensions wont fit right...

See, the jacket I have right now is Fieldsheer, and well, I"m not too thrilled with its quality. The zipper tabs have all busted off, the finish on the leather is weak, and the stitching doesnt seem so hot. :-\

Yeah, I'm not too fond of their leather (that's why I bought the TourMaster). Their gloves were synthetic leather crap.

I think I'm going to try to find an alpinestars GPU suit to try on locally. Newenough has them on sale right now... and well, it seems like a fair price.

Note that I've found Dainese to fit *perfectly*, but its just so damned expensive, and I cant find anything other than just jackets for sale locally... let alone an actual 2 piece suit.

I just bought an alpinestars spinner jacket.  I'm a medium, but I have a size large gut (gotta work on that).

Anyway, the large the sleeves were way too long.  I took out the liner and it fits okay.  Sorta works like a corset.  I went ahead and bought it to inspire me to work outmore.

Anyway---whoever said euro brands will fit you better is right.  The cruiser type jackets fit me fine in medium, as do "fashion" leather jackets.

get the jacket to fit your sleeve length. If you end up with a little extra room, get a nice back protector to put back there...   fills the gap and protects you better.

For pants, get them to fit your waist. you needn't worry about length, since they just tuck into your boots anyway.

I'm 5'10" 140 lbs with a 29" waist, 31" inseam, 38"chest. I have slightly longer arms than my size. (positive ape index)

I chose a teknic 'lightning' jacket size 40, fits perfect. I chose teknic 'thunder' pants size 30, slightly loose in the seat, but since I wear them as overpants anyway, fits perfect. They both zip together and I can move freely on the bike with no bunching or stretching.
