Title: Woo! I got a new bike :)
Post by: Meighan on February 23, 2005, 11:38:51 AM
So both the gixxer and the tiller (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14993) I was looking at ended up selling really fast (they were so cheap..) and I missed out. I did end up getting a great deal on a 2003 sv650s though, so I am happy!!!

I'm not crazy about the colour... I want to paint it and get lowers for it. Either the factory sv lowers or some nice race glass and paint it all up.. I'm thinking silver with pink flames ;)

The other two bikes are my boyfriend's 2003 Honda CBR RR street bike (the black bike) and his 2002 Honda F4i race bike (silver bike).

And just so we are clear, that is NOT my riding gear, those are my pajamas.. I wear sidi vert 2 riding boots, not white fuzzy slippers :nana:

... also, please ignore my horrible helmet hair!!!

I like your new bike.   Even the color.  Looking a bit stock though. . . You'll have to do something about that.

I drove through Vancouver twice in the past 7 days.  Once at night.  Once during the day.  Beautiful city.   Just amazing.

Went to Whistler/Blackcomb.   :x
But night life in the village?

Yeah it's all stock aside from the pipe.. which is actually really nice! Makes the bike sound sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Previous owner bought this bike new from the dealership, it's still under warranty and everything. He gave me all the receipts and he paid like $1,200 for that pipe! The only other thing he did to it was chop the fender off and install these funny little turn signals which don't even fit now that the pipe is on because it's a high mount.

See you can see that the signal on the right side just like hangs down now that the pipe is there!

Meighan....nice choice in bikes....Congrats on your new toy. The color is not bad at all. It is pretty unique and I think it even looks good with you on the bike.:thumb:

Don't worry about the riding gear....I wear the same fuzzy boots and wind flapping pants every day when I ride. Makes me even more comfy.

I hope you will still visit from time to time and let us know how things are going with the new bike.

JMV (www.eurobikes.com) makes some nice lowers for the SV...otherwise there are the factory lowers, but they kinda look funny, some other companies make lowers too, but I forget who

........by the way what's wrong with having the faster copper color (see my avatar)....hope to be seeing you around the SV forums.....

Yes those eurobike fairings are very fancy... but they are also like double the price of the factory lowers, and i don't think the factory lowers look all that bad!!!

Anyway, right now I can't afford to do a whole lot to it.. I'm already in debt on my line of credit for the bike it's self, and I'm having a hell of a time trying to get insurance sorted out... you can read about that whole fiasco on my local sportbike forum...

I've already joined svrider, people there seem nice!

Yes, the rear end does need adjusting doesn't it. Cleaning up the fender may require removal to gain access to all that you need. A file or sanding block would do wonders for the ratty pieces left from the cut.

Right on about those turn signals. The SV is too nice a bike to have that left that way. I know you will make it right.  :thumb:

Goood choice! I may get a new SV after wearing a lot of the rookie off with the GS. That is after I get kids out of college!

You can slap on a Hotbodies Undertail for less than $200 (click HERE!!!!)....I did, and it really cleans up the ass end of the bike....just be glad you didn't get fully stock bike with the MASSIVELY ugly rear fender.....it's 10 times more of an eyesore then the GS rear fender is.....

BTW....nice pipe.....you'll really enjoy that....now all you gotta do is perform a snorkelectomy......maybe slap in a PCIII.....change the fork fluid and springs.....get some new brake lines....upgrade the rear shock (GSXR 1K)....and you'll be ready to roll.....

yes....you can get it in copper....see my SV gallery  HERE!!! (http://www.socalsvriders.org/modules.php?set_albumName=albuo83&id=4_29_040009&op=modload&name=Photo_Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php)

a snorkelectomy is where you take out that elephant trunk looking piece  (snorkel) from the front of your airbox.....then you drill in some additional holes to allow for more air to get in....then you shim up the gas tank via Chewy's Tank Spacers (http://www.chewys-stuff.co.uk/)....you can actually get these and some longer bolts at your local hardware store....

well....I think they're bright enough....my wife disagrees......but either way you're gonna have some problems with the high-mount blocking the right signal.....
....the other thing you can get is the clear alternatives integrated brake light kit.....around $100....then you just get any undertail (targa, comp. werkes, hotbodies etc.).....just take your time....there's no real rush....

Yeah I was thinking about the clear alternatives... figured that might be brighter.  They aren't DoT approved though, but I doubt I'd get in trouble for it here, if I get asked about it I'll just say I use hand signals.

meighan... help!

ok, i'm not crazy about the color either, and i'm not sure about the front end with the 1/2 body work.

reason this is on my mind... i've found an identical bike for sale locally and i'm thinking about getting it. catch is... i'm not a fan of the front or the color. From your experience with it, do you prefer it over the round lamp / no shield when riding?

thanks!

The 03-05 svs's are great... I like it better than the 99-02 sv fairings, and the sv standard fairings (gs style).  The front half fairing really helps at high speed, when I was going fast on my gs500 the wind would be punching me in the chest, on the new sv I don't get any of that.

Yes the colour isn't the best, but if you can get it for a good price you can always paint it, or buy new fairings. If the fairings are in good condition you've always got the option to take them off and sell them used on ebay, and then buy another set in the colour you like either used or OEM.

trust me.....copper is the cooler and much faster color.....j/k....you can get a decent amount on ebay for the front half fairing and parts on ebay, but.....

.....you may need to buy a different gauge surround, and triple clamp if you don't like the clip-on ergos......best bet is to keep looking for a naked SV unless you have the time and $$ to dedicate to the project.....

....paint is always an option, but I think the copper looks sweet as is....jmo....

congrats on the new ride, I still miss my 03 sv, one of the best rides ever IMO. I loved the copper actually, i wished they had made the standard in that color, would have been my choice. anyways, i'm sure you'll love it.
P.S. I always thought a set of lowers in a different color, some kind of italian paint scheme would look cool

You know it's funny you say that, because I was thinking the same thing.. I even photoshopped the silver lowers onto the copper bike to see what it would look like, and I don't think it looks half bad at all!

The silver matches the silver "suzuki" logo on the tank, so I think it would match pretty good.

I like that...it's different.  Go for it!  You can always change it up if you don't love it...you could do your original idea since half the bike will be silver already anyway.

I think it would look really good it you got a decal kit to blend the colors a little.....put a little silver on the copper fairings.....and put a little copper on the silver lowers....

Looks like a nice ride, Meighan.  Sorry you had to get cut off and crash out to end up with it.  Still, it's nice to see you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start riding all over again.
