The auction is for rims, but the guy desscribes his bike (which he wants to sell).
I didn't know simple mods like those could more than double the horsepower of a stock engine. Looks like I'm using the wrong jetkit and exhaust.
I have done pretty similar mods to my bike, and I'd have a really hard time believing that it puts out any more than 45hp (i'd guess somewhere between 35 and 40). Am I just being mean? Is 80hp even possible?
:bs:
Goat...that was mean. I got my hopes up thinking I was going to see something cool...like this:

man, i have no experience or extensive knowledge w/r/t your question, but just reading that guys description gave me more chuckles than a litter of spraypainted puppydogs. my favorites:
It's a 1991 GS500E (GS 500 E) and it's sweet. It's about 70% done.
The engine was just rebuilt (because I wanted to, not because it needed it(!!!!)
Not for a kid[/img]

i remember reading that Bob Broussard was pushing 75
maybe he is on the bottle
or maybe even a turbo

Gee, I didn't think he was anywhere
near that old.... :o
(Sorry - couldn't resist. )

now that would really screw up our average for how old the gstwin members are
Kerry you're a card. And 80 from a Baby G? I've known people to get 60 or so out of old Trumpet 650 dual carb motors...they were only two-valve engines like the Baby, plus they were push-rod motors...low rpm hi-torque.
But with the G pushing say, 9500 rpm that would be a little over 40 ft-lb...but for how long? Hey BTW, I hadn't known that V&H captured the 2004 NHRA Pro-Stock bike championship...on a Harley!! :) Way to freakin' go V&H. Love the Baby and the forum.

I thought about doin some mods to my bike, just kinda sittin around day dreamin. I came up with wanting to put a two stroke 500 out of a snowmobile in it. One main problem would be no tranny. Man I bet that would haul ass though, 100 horse and they rev so damn quick.
FUNNY I thought about 80hp is when the GS starts to teeth crankpins and rods. that is without ballencing and a fluid dampener. oh wait, that was WITH ballencing and dampener, perhaps his is bettwe without :dunno:

i thought i heard somthing about this quite a while back. if i remember right, some dude took a 700cc polaris motor and stuck it in a frame. wheelie friggin machine. too powerful, couldnt apply gas til he was fully squared up. dont know about the tranny though.
A guy I work with claims there's a shop near his house that has something along that line... An ATV with a 'busa engine!
They drop Busa engines in everything...quads, sleds, jet skis....you name it.
now if I remember right , that Bob's bike had the gsxr head on it among other things
Everytime I look at this thread and see that pic above of that race bike I just want to tear my engine down and start modding.
CLASSIC!!!
Ok, I emailed the guy and he responded. Here's what I asked him:
"The mods you did to your bike would give it maybe an extra 5hp. Why do you think it has 80+ now? Did you get it dynoed? Thanks, Dom"
And here's what he said;
"I got over 10 hp just from the new carbs and the pipe. The advancer,
the jet kit, filter, and sprocket added at least another 10 to the
rear wheels. That's not including the larger pistons with the rebuild.
I had the ft pounds calcluated by the tech that did the work.
Dynoed? no. He measured the torque. Rear wheel torque roughly equalled
that of a 77 - 84hp motor.
hope this helps,
mike"
What should I say in my reply?

That is the sickest GS I ever saw other than some of Bob's creations.
I'd tell him he is completely retarded if he believed that.
Now that is one slick GS...come here EX, where are you?? Love little GS500's and this forum.

daaaaaaaaaaamn! that's a sick gs!
we should contact this bike's owner to do our body work
Just wait till Bob gets his racer done. Its gonna be tight. Theres some more sweet pics in the wall of fame in the new members bike gallery.

tell him about bobs bike and that its only pushing 75hp with a lot more work
I'd like to know how a sprocket change helped add horsepower. I mean, neglecting changes in tangential acceleration and minute surface frictional variations there won't be a HP change. Torque, yes, but since revs change, HP stays the same. Like a guy I knew who said he had a van that would turn 8 second quarter times. A family van at that. Love the scooter and the foru.
C.......
roughly equaled heh, well since you ride around on 50% of a liter bike, and since it only has one front disc, which is half of a supersport, you have roughly the same power to braking ratio as a gsxr1000 so riding his gs will be a step down from your "roughly equal" half liter.

What the hell are GS rims an upgrade for?!

RZ350, SRX-6
converting from 16 or 18 inch rims for better rubber selection....
actually lightening your rotating mass, whatever kind of mas its called, with a lighter sprocket and going from say a 525 chain and sprocket to a 520 would reduce the mass, and the less mass an engine has to move to get its power to the ground, the mo power it creates, race teams lighten engine componentry and sprockets and chains for this reason, thats why race bike engines weigh up to 30 lbs less than stock, and make so much more power, its pretty simple, now on such a low power application, the difference would be less noticable, but that guys still not too well informed about bike stuff so who knows if he even got a lighter sprocket and chain, hahahaha
no cd, thats not right..
Lighter driveline components will not make the motor produce more power. What it will do is increase the amount of power that gets to the rear wheel, and allow the motor to spin up quicker.. but the power the engine makes will be the same, as measure at the crank.
it takes less power to move less weight, so at a given potential power more get to the road if you lighten shaZam!, its more efficient, i meant it your way, my bad
